The munchies struggle be so real. Kansas City Chiefs baller Dwayne Bowe must have been smokin’ some good ish, cuz when cops pulled him over for speeding he asked if it was too late for him to grab a burger!
According to NY Daily News reports:
If the stench of weed that was allegedly wafting from his car didn’t make cops think Dwayne Bowe was stoned, then his question to the boys in blue certainly did.
The Chiefs wide receiver — accused of speeding and pot possession by Missouri cops — reportedly asked the officer who pulled him over late Sunday night if the nearby Sonic fast foot joint was still open.
According to the police report, Bowe admitted to smoking “a little weed” while at Kansas City’s downtown airport. The Chiefs were off last Sunday and the wide receiver was returning home following a trip out of town. He was stopped in Riverside, Mo., for driving 48 mph in a 35 mph zone late Sunday night; that’s when police say they found roughly a third of an ounce of marijuana in his Audi A8.
“I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week,” Bowe, who dodged reporters during Wednesday’s practice, said in a statement. “Due to the nature of the pending matter, I am unable to make any further comment on the situation.”
The 29-year-old wide receiver — who signed a five-year, $56 million contract in the offseason — has a court appearance on Dec. 18 and it’s unlikely that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell would take any disciplinary measures against him until after that hearing. In the past, Goodell has handed down one-game suspensions and fines of an additional game check for similar cases.
“I addressed him, had that opportunity to talk to him, and I’ll leave it at that,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “There are laws, rules and regulations, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Reid told reporters Wednesday that he plans to let the legal system run its course. The first-year K.C. coach added that Bowe would be in the starting lineup for Sunday night’s anticipated AFC West clash between the 9-0 Chiefs and 8-1 Broncos.
The Sonic, just around the corner, closes at midnight, so he would’ve been cutting it close.
Now we understand why ballers don’t put down their kush — sounds like he’s getting a real slap on the wrist. SMH.
