Well that’s no way to welcome Roger to Miami. Miami Heat baller Roger Mason Jr. got quite the chilly reception to his new city over the weekend when he and his sister became victims of an armed robbery.
According to NBC Miami reports:
Miami Heat player Roger Mason Jr. and his sister were robbed at a Biscayne Boulevard restaurant Sunday night, but police said they recovered the NBA guard’s Rolex after a chase ended with the arrest of two suspects on Monday.
Mason and his sister (whose purse was stolen) were two of several victims of the armed robbery at Ni.Do. Caffe, an Italian mozzarella bar at 7295 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden said.
Shots were fired either inside or outside the restaurant but no one was hit, and the four suspects fled the scene, Burden said.
Police were on the lookout for a black or blue Escalade, and on Monday police received a tip that the car was at a hotel at Northeast 7th Avenue and 35th Street. Investigators found the Escalade there and kept an eye on it, and at about 4:30 p.m. two suspects got into the car at the hotel and police attempted to stop it, Burden said.
But the suspects took off, leading to a chase that ended at Northeast 18th Avenue and 148th Street where the Escalade rammed a police officer’s vehicle, Burden said. The officer was not hurt.
One of the suspects had minor injuries and was treated on the scene before being taken to a hospital, and both suspects were arrested, Burden said.
Police recovered Mason’s watch and his sister’s purse. Two suspects remain at large, Burden said.
Mason, a 10-year NBA veteran, is in his first season with the Heat. He is averaging 3 points and 1 assist per game this season.
Damn, these guys are getting bold. They tried to outrun the cops AND rammed a police vehicle? And two suspects STILL got away?
That sounds pretty embarrassing. Maybe if Miami police didn’t spend so much racially profiling the innocent they’d be more apt to catch the real bad guys.
Congrats to Mason on getting his Rollie back though!
