A British teenager collected hundreds of coupons to purchase nearly $1,000 worth of groceries for about $6 and gave the food to a charity.

According to The Telegraph, Jordon Cox, 16, scoured websites and magazines, gathering 470 supermarket coupons.

Cox purchased the groceries and then donated them to Doorstep, a charity that gives food to disadvantaged families.

“I read an article that said a thousandth of the UK population are unable to eat this Christmas because they don’t have any money,” he told The Telegraph. “I decided I wanted to help as many people as I can, and to also show that it’s possible to shop very cheaply, if you know how.”

The teen began collecting coupons last year after his parents split up and his mother struggled to buy groceries with her small salary, The Telegraph reported. Cox estimated that he has saved more than $3,200 this year and has hundreds of groceries stocked in their home.

Cox is planning to launch his own coupon-hunting website next year to help others save while shopping.

This is awesome….kudos to this young man!
