Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons

Kimora andDjimon got hitched while Mrs. Simmons was still married:

Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou reportedly enjoyed a wedding ceremony in Africa last summer (08) – but the nuptials aren’t legally binding as the Baby Phat designer was not yet divorced.

The couple, who are expecting their first child together, began dating after Simmons split from her rap mogul husband Russell Simmons in 2006.
And the pair decided to celebrate their love with an unofficial “wedding” in Hounsou’s native Benin, Africa, according to the New York Daily News.
A source tells the publication, “She went whole hog with the African theme − there were African drums, a traditional ceremony with dancers… they even had a hut!”

The couple reportedly took Simmons’ two daughters from her marriage to Simmons – Ming, nine, and Aoki, six – along to the ceremony and enjoyed a romantic honeymoon in Paris, France afterwards. However, the union cannot be legally recognized in the U.S. as Simmons’ divorce was not finalized until January (09). The couple is reportedly planning a second ceremony in America later this year (09) to make their marriage official.

Damn. Legally binding or not, ole girl couldn’t wait to jump the broom with that specimen of manly goodness. Can’t say we blame her though…

    @ Re

I can say I do not like the Browns or the Paynes. that show is corny as hell. I daughter likes the Paynes. The only one I like to see on the show is Alan Payne.

  • BlackEssence

Funny how we embrace the white ideology of a wedding but then have the nerve to refer to an African traditional wedding as tacky.

    Pathetic.

Why isn’t anyone mentioning how tacky it was for this STILL MARRIED woman to get pregnant and have a wedding to Shaka Zulu? If she weren’t rich and famous, your tongues would be wagging all over the place. I can see the disapproving looks now. Geez.

…go find a hole and bury your head in it…ignorant fool.

  • brownbarbie

    @BlackEssence:

I just saw your last post. If you read the context of my sentence, I did not say a traditional African wedding was tacky. I said that it is tacky for a married woman to get pregnant and “married” to someone else.
The lack of morality of the whole situation is what’s tacky.
But if these were two regular Joes from anystreet USA, it would be a problem. But because it’s Kimora and Shaka, it’s OK. That’s what I’m sayin.
Now you may continue burning your candles and reciting your traditional birthright passages. Thank you.
