Repeat after us… Wild animals are not your pets!

According to NY Daily News reports:

Florida officials have arrested an 81-year-old woman for repeatedly feeding the bears on her property.

Mary Musselman was cuffed for violating a judge’s order to stop giving food to the animals at her Sebring home. Authorities also charged her with battery on a law enforcement officer, reports TV station WFTS.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission first warned Musselman not to feed the bears on Nov. 8 and then showed her educational videos on Nov. 19 when they caught her feeding them again, the commission told the station.

“Feeding bears results in bears losing their fear of people,” Gary Morse, FWC spokesperson, told the station. “Feeding wildlife puts the community at risk from property destruction to possible danger of life and limb.”

The commission euthanized a bear in 2012 after Musselman fed it, the Highlands Today reported.

But when Musselman admitted to feeding up to 18 bowls of dog food to the bears later that month, a judge convicted her of the misdemeanor crime and sentenced her to one year of probation.

Less than a week later the commission found her once again feeding the animals and a judge ordered her arrest — and she threatened to kill the officers that appeared at her home.

Morse told the station the woman was concerned the animals would starve to death and refused to accept that they would be OK without her because they hibernate.

Musselman is being held without bail and the former teacher’s predicament has brought concern from former students who held a demonstration at her house Thursday, the station reported. They said Musselman needs to be home to care for her husband who is dying of cancer.

We feel badly that her husband is sick but she needs to focus on him — not the bears!!! SMH.
