According to Billboard reports:
Bruno Mars is set to return to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart, thanks to his Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday, February 2.
According to estimates from industry sources, the entertainer’s latest album, “Unorthodox Jukebox,” sold perhaps 40,000 copies in the week ending February 2. That would represent a 164% gain compared to the previous week, when it sold 15,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The funny thing about it is that Bruno was also one of Sunday’s top receivers… He closed Sunday’s halftime show with his biggest hit record to date “Just the Way You Are”. It was amazing just the way it was, fireworks and all, but many people are unaware that Bruno received a hail mary that he caught at the 5 yard line and walked into the end zone when upstart rapper/musician Khalil “Cassius” Walton submitted the original demo of the song.
“I was writing a song that I would do myself, I just wrote the lyric and melody for the hook and the piano parts,” Walton told BOSSIP. “I never imagined writing songs for other artists let alone one with this magnitude. Bruno was the perfect artist to translate the idea. I wrote the lyric and melody for the hook and chord changes on the piano in my condo and sent Needlz the idea. He added drums and the rest was history,” he explained.
And just like that, as if Percy Harvin was running back a kickoff untouched Cassius found himself #1 on Billboard’s top 100 for 4 consecutive weeks. The song broke sales records in the UK and was listed 74 on Billboards top 100 songs of All-Time.
After taking a few years to enjoy his success and continuously work with major artists like Bruno and Lupe Fiasco, Cassius has started his own independent label imprint Vinyl Crown Recordings and released four songs on Feb. 1st on vinylcrown.com with plans to release a bundle package of multi-media content through peer to peer platform leader Bit Torrent (who has featured projects with Moby, Madonna, Lady Gaga and many others).
“I’m looking forward to sitting on the other side of the table,” Cassius tells BOSSIP. “I think the ability to create is a gift that you can’t keep to yourself. Art is one of the highest forms of inspiration and I hope to be an example of what is possible with hard work and preparation.”
Big congratulations to Cassius and Bruno on the success of the song and album.
