A missing 6-day-old boy who disappeared in the middle of the night from his Wisconsin home has been found alive in an Iowa gas station, police said today.

The boy, Kayden Powell, was recovered a day after he disappeared from his home in Beloit, Wisc., while his parents and other family members were in the house.

“He was wrapped in blankets and placed in a duffel bag outside,” said Lisa Hamil, assistant to Chief of Police Steve Kopp, in the town of Beloit, Wisc. “According to the emergency medical team that found him, he is in excellent condition.”

The boy was found when the police chief of West Branch, Iowa, heard the baby crying the Associated Pres reported. The chief, who had been checking sites along Interstate 80 along with other officers, located the infant’s cries and found by boy wrapped in blankets inside a bag.

Kayden’s mother, Brianna Marshall, 18, told authorities Thursday that she woke up to find her son gone, missing from his bassinet in the same room where she slept.

Investigators say there were no signs of a break-in at the home, and the parents are cooperating. The baby’s father, Bruce Powell, 23, and two other family members were also staying in the house, including Kristen Smith. Smith was arrested Thursday on an unrelated charge about 170 miles away in Iowa.

Hopefully they find whoever took this child and bring them to justice, but for now, we’re glad to know that he was found alive and safe.
