Something Better Than “Ickitt”

MIA

MIA named her baby “Ikhyd” which is obviously a lot better and way cooler than “Ickitt”:

M.I.A. didn’t name her baby Ickitt, thank you very much.

She named him Ikhyd.

The baby’s full mouthful of a moniker, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, was revealed on his birth certificate obtained by TMZ.

The tiny tot was was born to the 33-year-old rapper and her fiance, The Exit guitarist Benjamin Brewer, on Feb. 11 – mere days after his mom’s attention-grabbing Grammy performance on her due date.

The rapper chided “the Hollywood press” on MySpace earlier this month for incorrectly reporting on her infant son’s name.

“My baby is not called Ickitt, Pickit or Lickit thank you very much,” she wrote.

“I will be back with something newsworth soon. ‘Til then go pick on Apple, Satchel and Moon Unit.”

We’re mad she was trying to play the name Ickitt like that sh*t ain’t hella close to Ikhyd.  Fa real.

I’m sensing tension in your life. Something tells me there are real issues going on in your life and you really aren’t all that concerned about names of people who have nothing to do with you. Don’t avoid that conflict. You have to deal. It will only fester. Good luck, my friend.

  • bay girl

her 15 minutes not up yet?

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWSHADDAAAAAP!!!!

Well, I’m just glad she didn’t go all crazy and name the baby something stupid.

Anyway, I don’t think her music is garbage. She’s the best female rapper out there right now. Much love, MIA❤❤❤ (again, no homo)

  • SHOWNBEE

What’s in a name? I’m sure we all grew up and didn’t like our names. But it’s not the name that makes us. It’s who we are as people that make us.
@ATTENTION I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE SHOES!!

My name is Lashawnda. I am 21 with no children, not married but I am in a healthy relationship with a firefighter. Yes I have two half brothers which were raised in the same house as me. My mother and my father raised us; I have always lived in a nice neighborhood not the hood. Asia and china does not qualify as ignorance, a personality or someone’s intelligence may qualify them as ignorant. As I read your comment you kind of fell in that category. Names are not ugly it’s the people who poses those names who make the name ugly. Whatever your name is I’m sure you have done a swell job at making it sound ugly with your ignorance. I really think you should just get over yourself because your post made u look ugly and ignorant. Sorry but that’s my truth!!!!

    @ shownbee

I cosign 110% to what you said. Also, I want to point out that there was an Indian girl in my graduating class with the name Abilasha. No one ever referred to her name as “ghetto” or “meaningless”. It seems that only when names such as these as attached to a black male or female they are low class.

  • Whadidujusay?

@ATTENTION…THE NAME KATRINA IS GERMAN IN ORIGIN, A VARIANT OF THE NAME KATHERINE, AND IT MEANS PURE.

THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE NEW SCHOOL NAMES IS THAT THEY DON’T HAVE A MEANING. (NOT YELLING WITH THE CAPS…JUST LAZY)

  • ATTENTION I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE SHOES!!

@Shownbee- the fact of the matter is there are certain names that draw NEGATIVE IMPLICATIONS and no matter how you try to defend it, the fact remains that those names have GHETTO connotations attached to them. La in front of your name pretty much guarantees that your job applications will be screened that much harder. If you thought you were winning the debate by mentioning that you in FACT do have half siblings and that your parents did in FACT raise you rather than get married, well you proved my POINT.
Names do matter and as long as people keep thinking Hood is only a state of mind and not a state of emergency then we will continue to have such problems as unwed parents, young parents, low income families due to not finishing college, not pursuing a trade or career prior to having children and buying tennis shoes and rims INSTEAD of buying real estate, stocks and IRA’s.
Ps. My name is Catherine Marie

Names have to be the most subjective form of language.

Names can and often do have historical backgrounds, but many are born of abstract creative energy, and like all forms of abstract creation we define it according to our own experiences.

Why not name your child Lashawn instead of Tom? Is every Tom more competent? Is Lashawn always morally bankrupt?

It’s interesting that people want to feel economically empowered through good decisions and prudent planning, but reject the power of self-expression in favor of fear.

    P.S.

    Read a book.

Actually, if any of you are familiar with that show, The Backyardigans–the girl who voices the character Uniqua’s name is LaShawn, and she’s a Jehovah’s Witness. If you’re familiar with Jehovah’s Witnesses, you’ll know that they tend to be very respectable, law abiding citizens.

niki – shut the hell up, you’re the type of person who only gets offended if someone says something negative about black people, you cry racsism, but you think it’s perfectly alright to bag on other races, doesn’t that make you a racist? You’re making fun of a cultural name, that is ignorant !

  • enough

    typo “racism”
