Philly Teen Saves Stranger From Suicide Via Instagram
The girl on the other side of a Philadelphia teenager’s Instagram feed was a stranger, but her threat of suicide didn’t stop Nola Latty, 15, from taking action.
The troublesome photo appeared on Latty’s feed late Monday and indicated another teenager she followed had taken a lot of pills and wanted to die.
The two had never met nor interacted on the photo sharing app, but Latty didn’t want her to die.
“She was just in my newsfeed and she meant so much to me already,” Latty told WTXF-TV.
The teenager rallied an army of commenters to crowdsource anything they could to not only identify the other girl, but also find out where she lived. The mobile community pinpointed her to a town in Wisconsin where local authorities took over after Latty contacted them.
A police officer did a welfare check on the girl’s home and learned she was okay and with a parent, reported the TV station.
The two teens were hardly neighbors, separated by thousands of miles, but “it shows social media is not all like teens on their phones disconnected from everything,” Latty added.
Even though the girl turned out to be okay, Latty’s classmates and friends are calling her a hero for seeking help for somebody in need.
With all the fawkery that takes place on Twitter, Instagram, and Vine, we’re glad that something good abd wholesome shined through.
