Medical Professional Steals $350K Worth Of Human Skin
Gary Dudek, 54, of Wallingford, Pennsylvania has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $350,000 worth of human skin from Mercy Philadelphia Hospital.
Via Crime Feed reports:
According to investigators, Dudek, who worked as a sales rep for a Massachusetts-based regenerative medicine company and was in charge of managing accounts for Mercy Hospital’s bio-science department as well as supplying the hospital with skin grafts, stole said skin grafts between 2011 and 2013. Officials say Dudek was captured twice on security footage taking the skin from the hospital and stashing it in his car.
Authorities suspect that he was trying to double dip and make commission off the sales of the skin grafts he ordered. Either that, or he was building his very own Frankenstein. It seems like $350,000 worth of skin should be enough to piecemeal together at lest one skin suit.
Dudek was arrested and charged with theft and tampering with records. He was released on Tuesday after posting bail. His attorney made the following statement:
“If Mercy Hospital has suffered losses and they can be deemed to be as a result of Mr. Dudek’s actions then perhaps a civil suit could have been initiated. But to take this into the criminal arena against a man who has been nothing but hard working and law abiding his entire life is a bit draconian in my view.”
Sorry. No matter what the motive, human skin theft is still creepy.
