Former Police Officer Accused Of Pimping Child Prostitutes
A former Washington D.C. police officer reportedly took to a life of crime and began pimping two young girls, one of which had been previously reported as missing.
A police officer previously arrested on charges that he enlisted two teenage girls to work for him as prostitutes is due in federal court Friday for a plea agreement hearing.
D.C. police officer Linwood Barnhill faces charges that he hired children to work for him as prostitutes.
Barnhill was arrested in late 2013, one week after police say they found a 16-year-old girl in his apartment who had earlier been reported missing.
The girl told officers that she had met Barnhill, whom she said she knew as “Malik,” at a mall and that he initially invited her to model for him before offering to arrange for paid sex acts with other men, according to charging documents in the case.
The girl said Barnhill had also taken nude photographs of her, offered to pay for clothing and hair-styling before a date, and that she had met other women at his apartment who said they worked for him as prostitutes, authorities said.
A second 15-year-old girl interviewed by police last year said Barnhill asked her to work as an escort for him and “told her that her young age was not a problem because he had other young girls who worked for him,” the charging documents stated.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement in December that allegations against Barnhill and another officer, Marc Washington, who was previously being investigated on child pornography allegations, were “devastating for the entire department.”
