Thank you for the post. I understand what you are saying. It is a deep issue… and just one of the issues the race faces in today’s society. It is an unfortunate reality. But I do enjoy discussing the topic, because knowledge is power. And if we each commit to gaining knowledge about each other’s cultures and learning to appreciate our differences, the world would be a far better place.

Regarding the black women in mainstream media (hollywood and such) Naomi is pretty dark, isn’t she? There was another top model who was very dark, Nigerian I believe. I remember finding her really beautiful. But you’re right, it’s almost like the white culture has had to be spoon fed black culture little by little…. in order for blacks to gain acceptance. The music industry has been the exception I think.

So, I think whites played a big part in promoting certain black features (full lips, dark skin, kinky hair), as beautiful. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t remember the push coming from the black community. Black people love their pretty brown girls with thin lips/noses and “good” hair. So, today, when I hear about how much we “love” or full lips, I think of the times when I was a girl and I didn’t have that impression.

It is nice having these conversations, but they’re so personal and sensitive that they can be difficult to hold. I too am an open-minded person and love to learn about/appreciate/share my life with people of different cultures/backgrounds. It’s nice to meet someone who feels the same.

No one is saying that only black women have natural big asses, but you must admit that most races have their own unique differences. I think alot of brothers call themselves trying to deflate BW’s egos by making it seem like she is just like other women yet at the same time putting non-BW on a pedestal. It would be interesting to see what kind of appeal BM would have if they weren’t known for being well-endowed, swagger and athletic abilities. It’s funny how you guys love to bring black women down a notch about our qualities, but totally ignore the fact that the reason why BM are a huge commodity is because of the same thing.
