Unfortunately, in my opinion, it’s a byproduct of their environment, I think this results from them being surrounded by individuals that use this elitist attitude as a form of social status. In order for them to fit in the black women (and it can definitely apply to ANY minorities in any power role) will just develop this elitist attitude.

I think that one of biggest assets we as black people have is our ability to be versatile, most of us can be in a corporate setting talking about politics, the economy & world news but the following weekend we can be in our peep’s backyard talking ish, playing spades and tearing up the BBQ chicken. But a lot of people do lose their way and just adhere to that corporate mentality.

Phylicia Rashad was on Tavis Smiley and she is by far the most sophisticated, articulate, woman in Hollywood. She is a true actress and she is truly an icon. Children should listen to this lady tell the story of how her mother dealt with racism and life in general. Her mother moved she and her sister to MX, so they wouldn’t deal with racism in the South. And there she learned Spanish and culture. But, the way she described her life, was such a beautiful and provoking thing. We need more people like Rashad and Danny Glover to teach our children to expand their minds and worlds through arts.

Oh and she also traveled to India with her daughter, and helped the people there. She make her life about discovery and telling a story, if only we as black people can get passed this materialistic/capitalistic mindset that has been our way to prove how American we are, we can realize that it’s destroying us as a people, and drop the buying of petty things like clothes and cars, and take that money and take our kids on journeys to different lands.

BTW: Off Topic but why is it that when my sister and I took my nieces to a museum or to an Aquarium , something educational , black folks are no where to be seen? But you will see black kids going to the theater or going to the mall. Man, I agree with Cosby.
