Ne-Yo 001

Ne-Yo’s ready to break some new ground:

“R&B star Ne-Yo is promising fans new sounds on his upcoming album Year Of The Gentleman – because he has become “bored” of urban music. The “So Sick” singer – real name Shaffer Smith – is preparing to drop his third album in June.

But the star claims his new LP is different from his previous work – because he is no longer interested in urban music.

He says, ‘There’s some stuff on there that sounds like something the Beatles might’ve done. There’s some stuff on there that sounds like something Billy Joel might’ve done. I can’t do just straight urban music no more, because to be completely honest with you, I’m a little bored with it. I’m just moving with what music excites me now.’

Billy Joel? The Beatles? We’ve got to hear this new fruity endeavor. We’ll reserve judgement, but remain a little skeptical about this one.

I’m glad he’s doing something different. The Beatles and Billy Joel are the ish. Plus Ne-Yo is a great artist so this should be creative and good. I’m looking forward to it. Its okay to expand your mind from time to time so please don’t hate until you hear it.

  • huhsaywhat?

good for Ne-Yo, for wanting to expand beyond the urban R&B genre. I look forward to his next project;-)

I hate the way artists become snobs once they reach a certain level of successs…”Urban” AKA = Black music has suffered of recent that is because of the constraints put on it by the coporate owneras of the labels….Beatles..KMT…..the only one still alive is Paul McCartney and his ass aint had a hit since the 70’s…

Basicallly you’ve got a bunch of white artists copying the style of those succesful artists of the late 60’s and 70’s….note: see Amy Winehouse and Duffy….

KMT…My friendd finds Ne-Yo boring…I agree…like osmeone says talented on other people’s projects but boring as hell on his own….

  • Darth Paul

Give him a chance. He might turn up something good. ANd he’s right- “urban” music is pretty much a stereotype for black artists now. Creativity and innovation are what made black artists GREAT…*not* playing the same old sh!t all the time!!

  • ms meca
