WTF & SMH: Add an Adopted Child as an Accessory

Posted on January 25th, 2010 - By Bossip Staff

Well, folks…it doesn’t get anymore ridiculous than this bullsh*t right here. A little fashion web game called “My Minx” has a feature where you can adopt a child as an accessory and even dress him/her up.

More on this craziness when you…

This is the controversial web game that encourages young girls to adopt children as fashion accessories. My Minx players can buy orphans such as Pax, Maddox and Zahara – named after Angelina Jolie’s children – and Mercy and David Banda – named after Madonna’s kids. While four-year-old Zahara is said to be Ethiopian and a fan of eating guinea pigs, Maddox’s favourite food is supposedly cockroaches.

They can’t possibly be anywhere near serious with this crap. We’re sure Madonna and Ange aren’t too happy about this ish. Discuss…

    Not only is this racist–this is extremely exploitative of children in general. Children are people, not fashion accessories. This game trivializes the plight of orphans everywhere, regardless of color. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

    I think its always interesting that black people get out a shape when whyte folks adopt blk kids from third world country. Seriously…are u adopting any of those kids. We already know what the answer to that is…some people just like to sit back and criticize.

  • Kigali- I will check you

    And to give some perspective on the issues, most kids adopted are not black. The only reason why you assume that is because two very high profile white women have adopted black kids. Most kids are adopted from Russia, China, and Gautemala.

  • http:chokolatemilk.blogspot.com Choco

    @Get mula
    that was funny and I think you made light out of the situation without being to offensive…

  • nickey

    unless you have even considered adopting [actually filed papers and all] STFU!! our children need homes and if the white people can love and nurture them, better than that some overcrowded orphanage – more power to them – and koodos to all the BLACKS that have actually adopted because we have some serious problems within ourselves and most don’t want kids unless they are ‘cute’… smh

    _______________________________________________

    You are correct there. Anyone who takes the time to research this will find that in the adoption hierarchy in the US, white children are at the top of the pile, and black children are at the bottom of the totem pole, even though there are disproportionately more black children who are orphans than black children in the US population in general.

  • http:chokolatemilk.blogspot.com Choco

    I think this game is pathetic I don’t care who adopts who…but this game is poor taste….

  • MistaO

    Yea, bad taste and racist, but at the end of the day what “we” should really be offended by are the vast numbers, leigons, of Black people who can’t or are unwilling to take care of their own offspring.

    That is where our outrage should be directed. That is where we should be offended and at the numbers of Black people who do have the fiancial wherewithall to support our Black children from not only overseas but within our own backyards, yet choose to by $300k cars for 16 year olds.

    Don’t get mad at me for what’s going on. There are plenty of children in the U.S that need homes too! What about the orphans from hurrican katrina, or 9/11?! They’re not worthy of foster parents because their stories aren’t sad enough,or they won’t make some of these celebs look like mother Theresa? I applaud them for taking in these children but I’m not blind to what’s really happening.

    Not sure if you can compare an orphan in a third world country and one from 9/11 and Katrina who have received a lot of financial assistance from the US government and I am certain especially for the 9//11 victims that there are scholarships and financial aid for these children. Again, you just have your hand out. And I imagine that the reason why they dont adopt from the US because the relatives of these kids will come out of the wood work, as they often do when there is something to gain.

    Oh yeah I am the long lost uncle of Madona’s adopted son. I wouldnt want to deal with that.

    @Kigali

    Thanks. I appreciate it. You’ve been on point about many things too, but I’ve seen you get slammed for saying them. You are correct–we do disagree on several things, but I appreciate that both of us are mature enough to let our arguments fall or stand on their own merits, rather than attack one another with a barrage of insults when our argument no longer holds up.

    By the way, I read in a previous thread that you have some family in Haiti. You don’t have to update me on your personal family business on this impersonal forum, but I just wanted to let you know that you and and everyone else affected are in my prayers.

  • MsYoungGifted&Raw

    ——————————————–
    @Kigali…hun they can do that sh*t from third world countries too…annnnd what are you sayin because THIRD WORLD children are “more poor” THEN THE average american baby or child and that adoptin a child from another country stresses drama free from other americans?? Is that the best LOGIC you have on adopting outside of the USA??? LMAO did you also get that from MADONNA AND ANGIE..IM PRETTY SURE THEY USED THAT SAME LOGIC AS WELL.

    “O the american children are too much drama..children from other countries are less drama so lets adopt them”…lmao yes that logical enough for me *sarcastically rolls eyes*

  • Kigali- I will check you

    @Gimmeabreak,

    Actually everyone I am the closest to are doing great. Wonderful actually. All things considered. I have relatives who have relatives who have lost family but I didnt know them.

    BTW, I love insulting people but I know how to separate the wheat from the chaff. I actually only become unhinged when you attack marriage or black men in very vulgar terms.

  • Right?!?!?

    @ Kigali

    Lets be fair – the waiting periods you are talking about are for normal people. Sanctions were imposed in both Cambodia and Malawi after the expedited adoptions of Angelina Jolie and Madonna’s kids. And $25000 to them is what? Let’s be serious – the people you are referring to would not be Angelina nor Madge, sweetie.

  • MsYoungGifted&Raw

    @Espana…lmao I grasped that too but oh my its children being used as an accessory…LIKE UH DUH..celebs being doin that for years now…but ppl have a problem with the virtual side of it?? a game/? LMAO when the sh*t is actually takin place in real life but folks wanna complain about a game as if lil girls and boys arent seein there fave celeb do it in real life personally….lmao…the last ppl that should be adoptin are celebs..why because there lives are too fkn busy and hectic..if anything they should donate to families that have poor children or if they are going to adopt atleast it should be around the time there going to retire because kids are like a JOB and definately deserve alot of attention and not just from some damn in home worker aka nanny.

  • Kigali- I will check you

    @Right!?!?!?

    But the vast majority of adoptions happen by normal people. You cant go from saying white people adopt black kids for publicity or because it is trendy and use the example of only TWO high profile white women to prove your case. Also the wait time varies by country and according to the hubris of organizations like UNICEF who make adoptions incredibly difficult. Two adoptive parents out of thousands who go through so much money, stress and heartache. Imagine the parents who lost their adoptive kids in Haiti? Yeah thats really trendy. Again a lot of these adoptions are done by missionaries or those associated with them.

  • MsYoungGifted&Raw

    LMAO I mean really how do yall think they even came up with the idea for this game??? Not possibly through ppl like Angelina and Madonna..OH MY NO WAY not them….*rolls eyes*

  • Kigali- I will check you

    @Ms Young,

    But they are poorer than children in the US. If I were in a position to adopt I would never adopt from the US. I would adopt from a poor country first and foremost. There is just a greater need and anytime someone mentions that they could adopt from the US its always when these people adopt black. Some people in this country are always looking for a hand out and have this since of entitlement. Then you have groups like the NAtional Black Caucus who have made it clear that they dont want inter racial adoption of black US kids.

  • Mizz Frost

    We have enough children in Canada and the USA who are wards of the state. I think we need to start looking at taking care of our own children, before we start acting like world saviors. Its like throwing a pebble in a pond, it starts from yourself and works its way outward.

  • Mizz Frost

    @ Kigali- I will check you
    “But they are poorer than children in the US.”

    Actually you need to do your research before you start acting like you know what your talking about. The vast majority of reservations in Canada and the USA are considered 4th World and suffer greater poverty than even 3rd world countries.

  • Gimmeabreak78

    ________________________________________________

    I believe Kigali was speaking in general. Just because some US reservations are poorer than some 3rd World nations, does not mean that in general poor people in the United States are poorer than people in 3rd World nations.

  • BMW

    White people adopt our children and turn them into oreos that have no apprecation for their own culture. The game is stupid!

  • 2Sweet

    It is very hard to get anybody to adopt a black baby, let alone a black child!! I want biological kids someday, but it’s so disheartening how nobody really is stepping up to the plate to take these black babies in. I may adopt some AMERICAN black kids when I get older and am ready for children.

  • 2Sweet

    Americans always running overseas for kids when there are plenty of kids in the US who need good homes. WTF!

  • Gimmeabreak78

    @2Sweet

    Unfortuantely, there is usually a much longer waiting list for American orphans than orphans from other countries, particularly poor countries. The US has a much more difficult adoption bureaucracy to navigate as well as much more expensive fees, so in terms of getting a child, it’s simply “easier” to go abroad to get one.

  • Mrs. Rance

    This is not as bad as the fact that people are doing this in real life.

  • Horse.Head.Nebula

    I’m sorry but that is funny to me. It seems that people are treating these children as pets or accessories. But at the same time.. they are providing them with a wonderful life that they could have never imagined.
    They’re doing more than I am though… and others that can.. and don’t.. so… i dont know..

  • Kigali- I will check you

    @Mizz Frost,

    I doubt it. Unlike on an Indian American or Canadian reservation, you have somewhere to go. I had a conversation about this with my uncle years ago who was born in Haiti. He said that the poorest person in the US is richer than the richest person in a poor country. Why? Because, when our house burns down, we have a fire department to come and put out the fire. If we have a heart attack we can go to the emergency room, have world class doctors treat us and get medicine to keep us alive. We have schools, paved roads, etc. Even the richest person in Haiti doesnt have a good hospital to visit in the country. There is no Harvard to send your kids to. The roads that everyone uses is terrible. There are no ambulance. There is no Starbucks or Malls, or just little things we take for granted. No sewage system. Compare an average building in Haiti to the US embassy and you will know what I am talking about.

  • PRPPLE, just PRPPLE

    LOL, people and their perspectives….what do i care.

  • Kigali- I will check you

    @Mizz Frost,

    Your attitude is the typical selfish American one. Yes we do have children who are wards of the state, not because their mothers died in child birth because of hemorrhage which thousands of women in the third world die from because there is NO medical care. They are not wards of the court because a Civil war took their parents. They are wards of the court because their parents were on drugs or they were being abused. It is usually drugs and criminal activity. So if parents in the US would just do their job, or use birth control to begin with, there werent be many wards of the court. These kids would logically go to their relatives which the state compensates. Its this attitude that is prevalent especially in people i.e. Negroes, who feel like they need to be living high on the hog because they can share with anyone. Youre a pig. A pampered American pig.

    To be honest I just thank the lord lady gagoo wasnt adopting, thats what i thought this was! (relief)

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    Cockroaches and guinea pigs? Oh man…

  • Haitian but confused for american!

    @Kigali

    I can’t believe that I am saying this, but I have to agree with you on this one. Most people in this country are selfish to a certain extent. they will claim that they don’t have enough to buy milk for a baby, but they run to the store to buy a pack of weave! it’s insane!

  • Anonimus

    There wouldn’t be so many black babies to adopt if more black men would man up and stop running out on their responsibilities, or if more black women would use common sense and contraception before throwing it out there for the whole hood to hit.

    God Bless the White Women for stepping up to the parental responsibility neglected by so many of our own people. God Bless the White Women for giving our future generations the opportunities where so many of us have turned our back for our own selfish wants.

    Obama’s mother was white and his black father left him. Amazing how well a white woman can raise a black child isn’t it?

  • LetsBeReal

    As a sw I see a lot of families adopting children out of state …it is hard to find families who wish to adopt a child in the US…it is easier for them to adopt from other countries because they do not have to go through the same hassle to adopt as they would over here …the same is for other nations as well ….there are a lot of children …blacks and whites who are us citizens being adopt by families and other countries …so it does not surprise me to see a black family adopt a white child or white family adopt a black child …we just need to be concern about their well being ..if anything we should not persecute them from adopting a child of a different color ..but adopting children outside of the US..because they need love and support too

  • http://youtube.com/sexy1234 Uhh yeah Ok

    Hey hey

    I was adopted by White people. They also adopted my two sister from the Caribeans and brought our cousin on a student visa who graduated top of her class went home and brought all of her family to live in peace.

    My mother not only knows my culture, how to cook my food (it isn’t easy, trust me) but know how to braid our hair better than person I’ve ever seen until she got arthiritis.

    They didn’t spoil us, they taught us values, they made us work for everything and they really wooped our a$$es.

    I thank god everyday for giving me a chance and showing me the higher purpose in my life.

    My mom is an art teacher and theologist, my father a business man. They have always told me the truth about everything. Even race relations. My dad has cussed every race even black to protect us and damn near everybody is scared of him.

    My mom actually went to all of our homelands and fought to get us out.

    Kigali is right. non of you know what it’s like to be an orphan.

  • http://youtube.com/sexy1234 Uhh yeah Ok

    btw. My parents already raised a family of their own prior as well so they pretty much did this when they were a lot older than the average family..

    It sometimes appears that celebrity adoptions are for show…

    BTW I think International adoption is selfish and imperialistic. If you want to help sponsor the child so that he or she can stay in his or her own country and improve the plight of his/her people.

  • Breeze

    I just want to say this- black people “adopt” a lot of children also. We adopt more in non traditional ways. What I mean is that a lot of us have God siblings, play cousins, “uncles”, “aunties”, “papis”, “Big Mommas”, God parents and a whole host of others in out communities/lives who aren’t blood related to us but are still our family and we love each other and look out for one another as if we have the same last names and dna. When you closely examine that- that is a beautiful thing.

  • MadeByChevy25

    WOW!!!!….

  • Horse.Head.Nebula

    @Uhh yeah Ok, that is pretty awesome. Where in the Caribbean are you from?

  • STEFANY

    Actually Kemsey I’m 24 yrs old so my parents did a long time ago when it was taboo.

    It’s not white women adopting black children that bothers me – Love can come from anyone willing to give it. It’s the making them an accessory that disturbs me. Like they are puppies you can buy while the trend is in and then throw away when the trend ends. I don’t care who adopts a child, as long as they are not cruel or abusive to the child. If they show them love – it doesn’t matter what color or nationality they are, TO ME.

  • Mizz Frost

    @Gimmeabreak78
    Just because we are a minority and stuck on reservations where you can’t see the poverty, donesn’t mean its donesn’t exist on a large scale.

  • Missy

    Most of us don’t want to be judgemental, but sometimes you have to wonder.

    I know a young white gay couple who adopted a 2 year old black boy. Yes, he has a place to live and food and most of his needs and wants met, but is that the right thing for the child?. Is that in the highest good? Things are fine now, but what about when the child gets older.

  • Missy

    We never asked to be segregated…that was the Government’s decision solely. They took the best land in the area and displaced Native people onto the worst, most barren peice of land around, far from anyone’s eyes. I dont live back home because of all the things I stated in my previous statement. It is true that we have access to funding for schooling and medical, however this funding has been cut back so dramatically by the Gov’t that it covers the bare minimum if that. Funding for schooling depends on the First Nation, each one individually sponsers thier students and has a budjet to so so. Maybe your friend’s band has lots of money, perhaps from oil development or other business ventures, which allows them to sponsor thier students to the fullest. However that is not the case in most reservations, because of the amount of students applying, the amount of $ in the budget and so on, many go without being funded. Its not that we arent taking advantage of our privileges, its that they are slowly but surely being taken away from us (like our basic human rights).

  • Mizz Frost
