Well, here’s something you don’t hear every day: Mike Tyson is a player in the 2010 Florida senatorial race. Pop the hood.

Democratic candidate Jeff Greene is in hot water because he picked Mike “I’m Totally Broke” Tyson as his best man.

The Huffington Post reports:

Billionaire candidate Jeff Greene who’s challenging Kendrick Meek in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary has come under fire for choosing Mike Tyson to be best man at his 2007 wedding.

The Orlando Sentinal reports that key groups are up in arms about Greene’s friendship with the heavy-weight champ and sexual offender:

He’s got the president of the Florida Federation of Republican Women, the president of Florida NOW (National Organization of Women) and the First VP of the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida sounding like they’ve found common ground on something.

Paul Blank, a spokesman for Greene’s campaign, defended the Democratic contender’s choice of best man saying that he “obviously doesn’t condone or agree with” all of the controversial behavior Tyson has demonstrated in the past.

“You only need to watch Jeff interact with his 83-year-old mother to see that he has enormous respect for women,” Blank explained, adding that the Greene is a strong proponent of “redemption.”

We have a feeling Robin Givens would have something to say about this, too….
