Mike Vick, the 4.2 in the 40 yard dash QB, is coming back to the NFL…hopefully:
Imprisoned NFL quarterback Michael Vick expects to return to pro football, according to his bankruptcy attorneys who laid out a plan to pay creditors based in part on his anticipated earnings.”The Debtor has every reason to believe that upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL, resume his career and be able to earn a substantial living,” Vick’s attorneys wrote in a disclosure statement filed before a hearing Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Norfolk. The former Atlanta Falcons star is serving a 23-month sentence in a federal penitentiary for bankrolling a dogfighting ring in rural Virginia and is scheduled to be released on July 20. Once the NFL’s highest-paid player, Vick has assets of $16 million and liabilities of $20.4 million, according to the court filing in which attorneys wrote in extraordinary detail about Vick’s dizzying financial mess — listing a fleet of vehicles, properties, businesses and the extended family he supported. A Vick attorney said a committee representing all his debtors has proposed a plan to pay off his debt. “The committee attorney acknowledged that there’s been a lot of progress, so we’re hopeful,” Peter R. Ginsberg told The Associated Press. Vick still faces two state felony counts — dogfighting and animal cruelty. They carry maximum prison terms of 10 years, but under a plea deal, Vick would serve a suspended sentence and a year of probation. He is scheduled to appear in Surry County Circuit Court on Nov. 25. While Vick still has a contract with the Falcons, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would have the final say on his return, which he is counting on after he is released. “That’s the hope,” Campsen said in an interview. Ginsberg said if the sides can’t agree in December, another hearing will be held in January. Vick was ordered to attend.
Vick has most certainly paid the ultimate price for what he did: he’s lost more than he even had to give, which is a lot more than others who have made mistakes.
Is it time to allow Michael Vick the opportunity to collect the scattered pieces of his existence and start making a new life for himself?

There is no way they’re going to let a 23 yr old guy, that helped bring the Falcon’s back go for a, what, 30 yr old (?) guy that’s been out the game for over a year. But Mike may be the answer to Detroit’s flopping season. Or maybe San Fran. Hell he may even end up replacing Demarcus Russell in the Raiders nation.
What world is Vick attorneys living in? Vick will be lucky if he gets a job in the Canadian league. NO NFL team is going to sign him with all the baggage he has. And least we forget, the Falcons are still going after him for the money he owes them.
But then again, if the Dolphins can sign a stoner like Ricky Williams, there might be hope for Vick, but just barely…

I am a dog lover and care about the well being of any breed. I am overwhelmed with concern for those that take their concerns too far. I do understand what Mr. Vick did was wrong, but we have other pressing issues than dog fighting. Let’s us as a nation concentrate more on our proverty stricken areas, education, getting people employed and off the streets, drug wars, drug crimes, hate crimes and so many others that this list would never end! Do not misunderstand what I’m saying, I do not approve of dog fighting and believe that those that do this should be punished and made to serve 1000 hours of community service in a animal shelter. I think our prisons should be filled with Murders and harden criminals and not DOG FIGHTERS! We as Americans can lose focus on the “REAL” issues sometimes and I do say that with so much disdain! I do hope and pray that Mr. Vick is released and placed back into the NFL to continue his career and allowed to pay his debt in full. He is such a talented person and a person whom I believe does have remorse for his actions. Now, last but not least, if you want to make an example out of someone..make one out of the KKK, skinheads, white power organizations that place bets on when our President-elect Obama! Make an example out of them. Put them on public blast! Broadcast all of their dirty deeds with our media outlets! Yes you can!
I hope he does get back in the NFL. I’ve never heard of someone losing their career over dog fighting. He’s done his time but now it’s time to move on. People down here in the South are caught all the time participating in dog fights. They are charged, fined or placed on probation but losing their life. NO!!!!

The punishment he received was much too harsh. Child molesters and murderers seem to get less than what he got and they commit much more heinous of crimes. Though this was a hard way to learn the lesson of knowing and picking your true friends, he will come through it. Stay up, Vic.

Vick’s lawyers are overly optimistic about his earning potential after he is released. He won’t command the kind of salary he had before. He’s damaged goods, but should still find a place in the league.

Allowing Vick back into the league would harm the NFL’s popularity. Numerous fans of the league are dog owners or animal rights supporters. These fans could be angered by the reinstatement of Vick into the league, lowering the fan support that helps make money for the NFL.

Nick hogan didn’t even serve a year. He is out of prison and he only did 7 or 8 months. His friend will never walk, talk or leave that bed again. This system is messed up. I believe race played a part in Vicks harsh sentencing.
