Anyhoo, I have never watched a Super Bowl game in my entire life,but knowing that this broadcast would represent Jennifer’s return to the spotlight, I had to tune in, and I was not disappointed. She looked fabulous and sounded absolutely amazing (I LOVE her voice), and although I know she was probably nervous as hell (I did notice that she sighed b4 beginning to sing), she did an awesome job! Next stop…the Grammy’s, where I’m quite sure she’s gonna represent (and hopefully pick up at least one of the awards she’s nominated for).

As far as comparing Jennifer’s perfomance to Whiteny’s, there really isn’t anything to compare. Whitney’s version sucked BIG time because she not only looked a mess, but it was obvious she was lip-syncing. I read on another blog that pre-recording the performance is customary because of acoustics and whatnot, but even if that was the case with Jennifer, I definitely couldn’t tell.

She did her thing! I wish for that kind of strength.

We have to look at this without looking at her situation. I’m sure jennifer is not looking for any sympathy from the bossip folk. Saying she killed the song means just that. It’s a compliment and should be taken that way. I don’t think anybody meant it in a negative way. That was my first reaction not even thinking about the murders.That’s a normal term that people use everyday. People like making issues out of nothing. Everyone who performs something like this at the Superbowl will perform a pre-recorded version of the song. Faith Hill, who performed America the Beautiful, also performed a “pre-recorded” version of the song. The acucostics of such a large arena are not conducive to singing live. Plus, afer Rosanne Barr made a debacle of the N. Anthem in 1990, doing a pre-recorded version became the standard. Whitney, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, etc, have all performed pre-recorded versions of the National Anthem while singing at the superbowl.

Ok first of all so what it was a lip synch. She was lip synching to her OWN voice to avoid any problems during a live performance (like a soundsystem plm). So at one point in time it was live does that count? Second what is with all the comparisons to people who have very different voices Jennifer voice is different as night and day from Beyonce and Whitney Houston. And thirdly what’s with all the Beyonce hate that runs amuck on the Bossip comments? I mean if u are a Beyonce hater can u please tell me what it is that she did to hurt u or make u dislike her? GUYS, EVERYONE WHO SINGS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE SUPERBOWL’S VERSION IS PRE-RECORDED.

I read this book a few years ago by Don Weiss and Chuck O’Day. And in this book, Weiss reveals that beginning in 1993, the NFL suggested permanently that all artist have their pre-recorded copy of the Superbowl National Anthem sent in a week in advance for reviewing.

Don Weiss is still today (in 2009) the director of the Superbowl Operations. He also stated in the book that previous artists before numerous times had sung the National Anthem but were given a choice rather to lipsynch it or sing it live. Even Whitney Houston had chosen to lipsynch it. And all of these artists have now lipsynch the national anthem: Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks, Beyonce, and now Jennifer Hudson.

According to the NFL Operations Director, this is done due to precise timing. Artists under pressure may get off of tune with the band or crack up under pressure because their is a billboard in front of them that shows how many people worldwide are viewing the game. Statistics usually show about 822,000,000 (million) worldwide.

Either way, I said all that to say this, it’s still Jennifer Hudson’s voice and she did an excellent job. So don’t put down on her for doing what she was required to do by the NFL and what so many previous artists you love have also done before her.

Prerecording is a prerequisite for the Superbowl and any other “live” stadium singing due to the stadiums acoustics. Every national anthem since the late eighties (maybe even before that) has been prerecorded and yes that includes Whitney’s.

Don’t you people know that when you sing live at venue like that, there will be a 3 to 5 second sound delay. It only appears like she is lip-synching because there is a delay on her own voice. She can literally stop singing for 3 seconds and her voice will still continue to carry. That’s why many performers choose not to do venues that big. The sound system and amplifiers in that stadium is massive. That’s why they wear ear-pieces.

It was brave of her to step up and be there to deliver her performance. As far as doing live performance in a football stadium.. if you want to listen to that then you had Bruce Springsteen’s performace which was energetic and spirited but chaotic as far as the sounds were concerned. Recording live audio in a loud, echoey environment is a big challenge and, unless a big show or statement is being made about the performance actually being live, it’s stupid to worry whether the artist is live or not as that is only one aspect of the performance.

And let me say something else as a black man about them brothers in Milli Vanilli. Let me get this straight.. some white German producer makes an album.. has a bunch of black vocalists perform songs. Hires two guys who look the part to go out and promote and perform this music worldwide and make videos that are the top rated on MTV for a year. Everyone digs the performers.. they love the singles. Then said producer, once the talent wants a bigger cut of all the cash THEIR performance is bringing in, reveals the TRUTH .. that HE committed a fraud by producing and managing this “hoax”. The young performers are hung out to dry by the world and are villified… Grammy Awards are withdrawn and the singers BANNED from wherever you get banned from. To this day.. people still say Milli Vanilli fraud and hoax and those brothers are poor and one is dead!!! Now damnit WHERE is the justice??? They DID the videos.. they lip synced the songs!!! The singers hired to do the album DID sing and the songs DID sell.
