Quote of The Day: Michelle Obama

Posted by Bossip Staff

Michelle Obama talking about how living in the White House could affect her kids’ lives:

“We’re looking at the possibility of what they will get from their experience running for president. And what a gift, to grow up in the White House, to see world leaders, to understand how the country is shaped,” she said. “What a symbol that it will show to so many young boys and girls out there, particularly kids of color, who have never seen themselves — in a major way. What a statement that’ll be.”

Quote of The Day: Barack Obama

Barack Obama dicussing why he is the first American presidential candidate in history to have secret service protection this early in this presidential primary race:

“I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it or considering the details of this,” he added. “But just to broaden the issue, are there people who would be troubled with an African-American president? Yes. Are there folks who might not vote for me because I’m African-American? No doubt.”

If Kennedy and Reagan were capped on, Obama will probably have to duck at least once.

Oprah Winfrey speaking to Howard University graduates on Saturday:

“I stand here as a symbol of what is possible when you believe in the dream of your own life,” Winfrey said. “Don’t be afraid. All you need to do is know who you are.”Winfrey said that while growing up her grandmother, a servant in 1950s Mississippi, hoped that Winfrey would “get some good white folks” to work for.

“I regret that she didn’t live past 1963 and see that I did get some really good white folks — working for me,” said.

‘Blood Diamond Russ’ vs. Barack Obama

Posted by Bossip

Burn victim patient-looking Russell Simmons recently had some dismissive comments about Barack Obama. Blood Diamond Russ took a break from blonds and being a pawn of the ‘conflict diamond’ industry to ride against Obama for his post-Imus comments on Hip-Hop:

So at the end of the day, he’s controlled, too. That’s my point. He’s a mouse, too, like everybody else.

Blood Diamond Russ goes on to express a more positive view of presidential candidate John Edwards:

I talk to John Edwards more than I talk to anyone

Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle talking to the Chicago Tribune:

“I heard that growing up, ‘You talk like a white girl,’ “One of the things I hope happens through our involvement in this campaign is that this country and this world sees yet another image of what it means to be black.”

‘Blood Diamond Russ’ and Co. on Oprah

Posted by Bossip Staff

If you missed the “Post-Imus” discussion of Hip-Hop on Oprah, here is some of the footage. It looks like “Blood Diamond Russ” took a break from blonds and blood diamonds to chat it up. Common, Maya Angelou, and some sisters from Spelman make an appearance.

Now that Common showed up, can rappers stop crying about being on Oprah now? That is not her market or demographic, it’s a business, don’t take it personal.

‘Blood Diamond Russ’ Wants Hip-Hop Meeting at Lyor Cohen’s Crib

Posted by Bossip Staff

In response to the Imus controversy, Russell Simmons is scheduling at a “private” hip-hop meeting at Lyor Cohen’s crib (pictured above). Blood Diamond Russ disagrees with Al Sharpton’s latest efforts to wage a political Jihad against record companies promiscuously pushing “bitches, hoes, and drugs” in their lyrics. Blood Diamond Russ says:

“I’m not saying all rap is good. But most of what I hear from rappers is an honest depiction of what they know. The poet is just reflecting the truth of society.

In Russell’s world, Lyor’s crib is the perfect spot to address these issues, you have to throw the issues to people who really care. When is Blood Diamond Russ going to get impeached?

NBC’s Today Show Disses’ Al Sharpton for Imus ‘Double Standard’

On the “Today” show, host Meredith Vieira blasted Al Sharpton for not riding against rappers for promiscuously promoting the words “ho’s” and “bitches’ in their lyrics while riding against Imus for his “nappy-headed hoes” comment. Sharpton shot back by saying his organization is trying to promote rappers with more positive messages.

Quote of The Day: David Cordero

Posted by Bossip Staff

The Barack Obama campaign was forced to distance itself from a sculpture of Obama as a Jesus-messianic figure entitled “Blessing”. The creator of the piece says:

“All of this is a response to what I’ve been witnessing and hearing, this idea that Barack is sort of a potential savior that might come and absolve the country of all its sins,” Cordero said. “In a lot of ways it’s about caution in assigning all these inflated expectations on one individual, and expecting them to change something that many hands have shaped.”

Russell Simmons Plans March Against Tony Yayo and G-Unit

Posted by Bossip Staff

Following the alleged attack by Tony Yayo on Jimmy Henchmen’s 14 year-old son, Russell Simmons and Al Sharpton are planning a march to protest Yayo’s cowardly actions. Yeah, we can talk about Yayo punking lil kids, but Old Man Russell, what about all the lobbying you’re doing to clean up the dirty image of the diamond industry in Africa? When can we get a march to protest that? Oh yeah, someone may want to tell Russell marches are played out like the peace-sign and counterfeit leaders . SMH.

Quote of The Day: Barack Obama

Today’s LA Times talking about Barack Obama’s opposition to this moronic Iraq war:

Obama wasn’t in the Senate in 2002. But he made his views crystal clear in a speech on the same day that Clinton and 28 other Senate Democrats voted to authorize the use of force against Iraq: “I don’t oppose war in all circumstances…. What I do oppose is a dumb war…. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.”

Reverend Jesse Peterson: “They turned the Superdome into a ghetto in just 3 days.”

SMH at Reverend Peterson saying Barack Obama goes to a racist church. Fox News obviously loves that guy.
