Tavis finally “sat down”:

“Well, you did it. This isn’t the way you wanted it to happen, but it happened anyway. Just like I knew it would,” begins an open letter from veteran radio personality Tom Joyner to Tavis Smiley.

It’s the latest in ongoing drama that followed Joyner’s announcement Friday that Smiley will end his twice-a-week commentaries on the syndicated morning show.

When the news broke, folks speculated that he couldn’t handle the backlash he’s been getting from blacks over his criticism of Barack Obama. Although Smiley released a statement saying he was leaving to focus on future projects under his company, The Smiley Group, Inc., Joyner isn’t buying it.

‘We all know that isn’t the real reason he’s leaving the show,’ Joyner writes in the open letter, ‘The real reason is that he can’t take the hate he’s been getting regarding the Barack issue — hate from the black people that he loves so much. He needed to feel the love. We all do, whether it’s from our radio audience or from people we know personally. He wasn’t feeling any love, so he quit.’ Continue »

Sisters Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad attended the opening night of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” last night in NYC. Phylicia looks beautiful as always, but we weren’t ready for Debbie’s mature lady rack exposure this early in the morning.

Terrence Howard was spotted leaving the Waverly Inn last night in NYC. Mr. Babywipes is looking mighty sharp in that there get up. Damn, no man’s purse? That murse swag would’ve set that fit off for real.

He is starring in the Broadway show “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and our boy Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be hitting up the opening night on Thursday along with Oprah, Denzel and Paulette Washington, Spike Lee, Bill and Camille Cosby, and Will and Jada Smith.

Kerry Washington was chosen to replace Naomi Campbell in the upcoming Spike Lee film “Miracle in St. Anna”. Our girl Kerry never had a problem finding work. We wonder why the crybabies weren’t selected. Could it be that Spike Lee recognizes talent?

Halle Berry was honored with a star on the Hollyweird Walk of Fame today. Is that a normal kiss there? She has “worked” very hard to get that, including dating Spike Lee, Eddie Murphy, and Snipes. She earned it.

What’s up with this pose? Showing everyone it takes more than beauty to make it this far in Hollyweird. Congrats to Halle!!!

Oprah just opened her $40 million dollar ‘Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls’ which is set on 22 acres and spread over 28 buildings in South Africa. Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige, and Spike Lee all hit up the school opening in support. This quote is making the rounds as a diss on the FUBU kids but I think this is more about American values. Next….

After the New York Knicks were getting smacked up on their home floor, they started a fight with the Denver Nuggets last night. The Carmelo Anthony factor ensures this gets out of hand. Watch as Carmelo banks Knicks player Mardy Collins in the jaw and then does a Jim Jones and runs away. Jared Jeffries (Knicks #20) starts chasing Carmelo like a crackhead after his rock was stolen. Carmelo wasn’t the only person seen running for cover, Spike Lee and his daughter had to break out from their courtside seats.

Magic Johnson and his little son Spike Lee showed up at the GQ Man of the Year Awards last night. These dudes stay out the Hollyweird drama and keep it classy and moving. Others should take notice. TI also came through and with his upcoming role in the Denzel flick American Gangsta, he is making some damn good career choices.
