Craziest Sports Contracts Ever

All athletes seem to be overpaid when you think about teacher pay, for instance. But some are more overpaid than others. These athletes got huge contracts to be not that good at their sports. We wish we could get overpaid like this, dammit.

JaMarcus Russell – He signed a six-year $61-million rookie contract with $32 million guaranteed. He’s one of the biggest busts in NFL history and still walked away with $40 million.

Albert Haynesworth – He signed a $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins and was guaranteed $40 million even though he showed up hungover and out of shape and got cut almost immediately.

Roy Williams – He was a Dallas Cowboy with a $54 million contract and $26 million guaranteed even though he was absolute trash and got let go a few years later.

Kobe Bryant – He’s getting paid more than $20 million his next two years despite the fact he’s on one leg and he’s old as dirt.

Stephon Marbury – He got a $76 million contract and the Knicks had to basically pay him $20 million to get rid of him.

Jake Delhomme – He got a $45 million contract extension then proceeded to be really bad at football and got cut two years later.

Gilbert Arenas – He got a $111 million contract then decided to bring his gun to the locker room and ruin his career.

Rashard Lewis – He had a 6-year $118 million contract and it was a total waste as the Magic wanted to get rid of him so badly that they took Gilbert Arenas’ contract instead.

Andrew Bynum – He’s getting $14.5 million despite being a cancer to every team he’s on and not playing in two years.

Bobby Bonilla – He signed a crazy contract with the Mets where he’d get a million dollars a year for 25 years starting in 2011. Yes, he’s still getting paid.

Joe Johnson – He’s got the worst contract in the NBA right now, earning more than $100 million.

Deangelo Hall – He had a seven-year deal for $70 million and he isn’t anywhere near worth it.

Allan Houston – He had a $100 million contract with the Knicks but he got injured and didn’t play his last two years even though he was the 2nd highest paid player in the league.

Michael Vick – He had a crazy ten-year contract for more than $100 million but it all went to hell when he started having those dogs fight.

John Lackey – This Red Sox pitcher got an $80 million contract and he never played well again. Travesty.
