13 Underrated Female Hip Hop & R&B Collaborations
There seems to be a female unity movement trying to ease its’ way onto the music scene as of late, and given the usual beef and bickering, we have to admit that it’s a nice change from the norm.
Beyonce and Nicki Minaj sent the internet into a frenzy over the weekend with the release of the “Flawless” remix and it got us thinking about a few other female collaborations that didn’t get quite as much shine for one reason or another.
Come with us on a stroll down memory lane to check out these short-lived but unforgettable all-female collabos…do you remember these songs?
Brandy featuring Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, & Queen Latifah – Wanna Be Down Remix
Brandy got an all-star cast of veteran female emcees together for this memorable remix and the rest was history.
Beyonce & Missy Elliot – “Nothing Out There For Me”
A young and budding Beyonce teamed up with producer extraordinaire Missy Elliot multiple times during the beginning stages of her career….do you remember this song?
Christina Augilera featuring Alicia Keys – Impossible
Although Alicia didn’t lend her lead vocals to this song, she wrote and produced it while also making a few remarks in the opening before later putting few background vocals.
Trina, Shawna & Foxy Brown – “What’s Your Fantasy [Remix”]
Ludacris’ original “What’s Your Fantasy?” song was a breakout hit back in 2000 and when these ladies jumped on the remix, it only got better.
Missy Elliot featuring Lil Mo – You Don’t Know
This hilarious hidden gem was featured on Missy’s second studio album and if you haven’t heard it but are up for a good laugh, then this is for you.
Mariah Carey featuring Xscape & Da Brat – “Always Be My Baby [Remix]”
Mariah Carey was known for her heavyweight hip hop features back in the day and snagging So So Def labelmates Da Brat & Xscape for this remix of one of her biggest hits only made it even better. Classic!
Kelly Rowland featuring Eve & Sevyn Streeter – Gone [Remix]
We never got to see this song go past the 2013 “Black Girls Rock” show, but it was definitely a great moment to see a female veteran, a solo artist finally coming into her own and a new comer united on stage together in an era that seems to thrive on beef.
Whitney Houston & Deborah Cox – Same Script, Different Cast
When these two powerhouse vocalists teamed up, it was R&B gold in the form of a clever song concept that had everyone’s attention.
Beyonce featuring Foxy Brown – Back Up
This unreleased single barely saw the light of day but it was recorded circa 2006. An interesting collabo considering Foxy’s history with Jay Z.
Keyshia Cole featuring Monica – Trust
These two young songtresses grabbed the attention of their fanbase with this duet that featured their smooth vocals over a track with a classic R&B feel.
Fantasia, Faith Evans, Coko, Lil Mo – “Endow Me” [Remake]
Featured on Coko’s solo album, this was one all-female track to rival the best of them.
Eve featuring Faith Evans – Love Is Blind
Eve and Faith teamed up to not only make a memorable mark on the music industry, but also to take a strong stand against domestic violence in the process.
Mary Mary featuring Destiny’s Child – “Good To Me”
Before Destiny’s Child went on hiatus, they hit the studio with gospel duo Mary, Mary for this little known ladies only collabo.
