15 Mistakes Every Couple Makes In The First Year Of Marriage
So you just got married. You think you have it figured out? Well, not so fast. The first year is the toughest of any marriage, so we’re here to help you get through it. Trust us. We got you covered. Here are some mistakes to avoid in those first critical 365 days.
Mistake 1: Not going to counseling anymore – You may have gone to pre-marital counseling and it was great. But you don’t have it figured out. Keep going to counseling and improving.
Mistake 2: Still Being Cool With Your Exes – It’s a tricky situation but marriage is different…are exes really that important?
Mistake 3: Not planning for fun together – You’re married with no kids. It’s the most beautiful time because you can still enjoy yourself and take trips. So take them.
Mistake 4: Not Going On Dates – You’re still learning about each other and falling in love every day. Keep the flame alive and plan dates. And treat them like dates, too.
Mistake 5: Not Being Flexible – Some things you try to do in your marriage just won’t work. It won’t. Then you have to go to the drawing board. It’s okay. You’re still learning each other.
Mistake 6: Panicking – Big fights will happen. Don’t panic. You’ll get through it.

Mistake 7: Letting Your Family In Your Business – Don’t let them get involved and call them with your problems. They only ruin things.
Mistake 8: Smothering Each Other – You’re married but you should still have your alone time. Let him go get a drink. Let her hang out with her girls. It’s okay.
Mistake 9: Not Setting Long-Term Goals – What do you want for your marriage long-term? You want a house? Kids? It’s never too early to set goals.
Mistake 10: Thinking Sex Isn’t Important – It is. Yes. It is. Still.
Mistake 11: Not Having Married Friends – Seek out married friends. It makes a difference. Your single friends are cool but you need to be able to hang out with people who have been through what you’re going through.
Mistake 12: Not Fighting – You’re in your honeymoon phase but you still need to work out the kinks. So fight. Holding it in would only make things worse.
Mistake 13: Thinking You Can Stop Trying – You’re still working in your relationship. The hard work isn’t getting your partner. It’s making them happy.
Mistake 14: Being Jealous – Yes, you have more to lose now that you’re married. But there’s no place for jealousy. Gotta get over it.
Mistake 15: Not Respecting The Other Person’s Weirdness – Your spouse has weird quirks. They want a certain type of toilet paper. They brush their teeth counterclockwise. Whatever. Respect it and try to figure out how you can live with it.
