Comedian And Wife Spar Over Child Support And Alimony
Chris Rock’s divorce battle with estranged wife Malaak Compton-Rock is headed to trial after the pair failed to settle issues like alimony and divvying up property out of court, BOSSIP has learned.
The former couple’s divorce case will head for trial in May 2016, after they couldn’t agree on basic points like child support, the division of their assets, alimony, medical and life insurance and lawyers fees.
Things are so rocky that the Rocks can’t even agree on why they’re divorcing in the first place, with “cause of action” among the issues in dispute, according to a Nov. 16 court order.
If the trial moves ahead, it’s expected to last two weeks.

Bergen County Family Court Judge Bonnie Mizdol set the trial date Monday during a hearing where lawyers for both sides met to hash out a timeline to exchange evidence.
BOSSIP can reveal that the trial date came after the exes apparently tried, but couldn’t resolve their differences during an economic mediation back in August, according to court docs.
Judge Mizdol ordered that Rock tell his soon-to-be ex how much he spent over the last six months as well as detail the balances on his business and personal accounts. She also ordered Compton-Rock to hand over evidence about their adopted daughter, Ntombi, a child from South Africa who Compton-Rock said she’d been raising since before her first birthday.
The judge also ordered that the case be put on a “complex” management track, meaning that it requires special treatment or has presented usual problems.
Neither the husband nor the wife came to court Monday, and lawyers for both sides declined to comment after the hearing.
Rock’s career appears to be moving from strength to strength, and the actor is set to host the Academy Awards next year for the second time. Compton-Rock meanwhile, has largely withdrawn from social life. She last tweeted more than a year ago, and her last public event was back in March for the Children’s Defense Fund gala in Manhattan.
Rock and Compton-Rock married in Nov. 1996, and Rock filed for divorce last December citing irreconcilable differences. Compton-Rock filed a counterclaim that said Rock needed to financially support her and their three girls as he did during their marriage because they deserve the same lifestyle they enjoyed when she and Rock were together.
Compton-Rock wants alimony, child support for their two kids and adopted daughter, her lawyer’s fees paid.
