Restoration Biz Said Bishop Eddie Long Tricked It Out Of $177K Worth Of Work On Building In Foreclosure
A building rehab company said Bishop Eddie Long conned it into doing nearly $180,000 in restoration work on his property by hiding that it was already in foreclosure, BOSSIP has learned.
American Property Restoration has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Long – the head of the Atlanta-area New Birth Missionary Baptist megachurch – for fraud and breach of contract because it contends Long and his partners never paid for $177,343 worth of water damage repairs the company’s workers did in 2013 on the Jonesboro, Ga. commercial space they owned.
The company said Long, 62, and his partners purposely didn’t say that the building was in foreclosure because they never intended to pay the money back, according to the suit, filed in DeKalb Court Superior Court. American Property Restoration put a lien on the building in an attempt to recover the money, but the foreclosure invalidated it.
“We’re just trying to get it paid,” company manager Alpha Diallo told BOSSIP. “We’re not getting anything from him. He’s like a crook in a sense.”
The pastor became infamous four years ago, when several young men came forward claiming they’d been groomed and then sexually abused by the married father while they were teen parishioners in his congregation. Long, who preached that homosexuality was an abomination, denied the teen’s allegations, but later settled with his alleged victims out of court.
American Property Restoration wants one million dollars in punitive damages, along with it’s money back, and interest.
Long has yet to respond to the company’s suit.
