Erykah Badu Kills Iggy Azalea With Soul Train Awards Rap Joke
It’s no secret that Erykah Badu can throw shade with the best of them, so we’re not at all surprised that she brought down the house (and Twitter) while hosting the 2015 Soul Train Awards when she made a joke about Iggy Azalea as part of her intro monologue:
“As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers: that I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads,” Badu, 44, said. “So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying ‘Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.’”
Erykah extended her joke by saying rappers were not welcome at the Soul Train Awards with Iggy as the exception, then pretended to take a call:
“Who is this? Iggy Azalea? Yeah, hey! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! You can come,” Badu yelled into her phone. “Because what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”
Jidenna’s face though!!!
Hey it’s not like Badu is acting out of character. This tweet is pinned on her account for good reason.
What did you think about Erykah’s joke? Well needless to say, Twitter was so THERE for it.
