Washington Post Breaks Down Iggy Azalea’s ‘Blaccent’
The Washington Post has really answered the call and been one of the most trusted publications over the last year or so. Especially in light of the #BlackLivesMatter coverage they’ve been doing. However, this article is a bit perplexing. The publication did a story on Iggy Azalea’s mastery of the “blaccent.” And while it agrees that Iggy went too far by appropriating blackness, the story does a few things that have riled people up. Like…
This article is vile and anti-Black. It reduces Black ppl and AAVE to costumes to consume, study and "master." https://t.co/SMnuZiT8Ho

Well, that’s one way to put it. Just look at some of the other people who are disgusted by the article. Why are we even talking about Iggy Azalea in 2016? Bloop.
blaccent?!! As in black + accent… wyd pic.twitter.com/DXNYP07sAK

@washingtonpost write an article about how Future mastered his blaccent

I'm tired of these media outlets thinking they can talk crazy about black culture any chance they get. What in the world is a "blaccent"?

@SixLasers I did read it, we don't need any feature on Iggy or that Beyonce shade; let's leave her in 2015.

Y'all are giving Iggy Azalea's Charli Baltimore impersonation far too much credit. https://t.co/Z9diUrZ643
— Michael Arceneaux (@youngsinick) January 4, 2016
The mainstream has been appropriating black vernacular for as long as black vernacular has existed. Iggy is just the most recent Terminator.
— Vann R. Newkirk II (@fivefifths) January 4, 2016
Major "news" orgs are still writing about Iggy Azalea. In the pre-social media age, she woulda gone the way of Oaktown's 357 by now.

you know what i left hate clicks in 2015 along with even a passing interest in Iggy Azalea. not falling for it.
