There seems to be speculation that Zoe was not black enough to play the role of Nina Simone.
At a pre-Oscar party, HipHollywood caught up with Zoe Saldana and questioned her on how she’s managed to stay positive for her role in the upcoming Nina Simone biopic film. Many fans were upset when it was announced that Saldana was going to be replacing Mary J. Blige, partially because of the fact that Simone had much darker skin than Saldana does. Some people were also agitated because they feel as though Zoe hasn’t publicly accepted or praised her Black roots like she has her Hispanic side.
