Lisa Nichols Says People Have Put Up Barriers To Their Own Happiness
Motivational speaker Lisa Nichols said people – and especially young people – are unwittingly sabotaging their lives with behaviors that are keeping them from their dreams. The bestselling author of “Abundance Now,” spoke to BOSSIP at last weekend’s Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine, revealing the top three bad choices keeping people from realizing their potential. Here, in her own words, Nichols reveals her top mistakes, and how to fix them:
Building Solid Versus Fast
“We’re in a Google download world. We’re in a microwave world. My grandmother used to say, if you want it good, you’ve got to build it on cement, not sinking sand. So your best dreams should be built in the oven, not the microwave…some things require time for sustainability.”
The Worship Of Wealth
“I think that we are – and I say ‘we,’ but I think more so the younger generation – are focusing on things, possessions and wealth, versus substance, and relationships and faith and purpose. Again, you don’t know what you don’t know, but we as a society have made it very glamorous to have wealth and possessions and bling and things. While all of that is glamorous, and I don’t negate that, I have that in my life and I appreciate it. But all of that sits on top of phenomenal relationships. It sits on top of a solid faith. It sits on top of the awareness of knowing if all that left; I’m still whole and complete.”
