BOSSIP Exclusive: Kehlani’s Family Warned Her To Focus On Her Career Instead Of Guys
The Troubled Singer’s Grandmother Tells BOSSIP She Told Her To Steer Clear Of The Guys
The grandmother of singer Kehlani Parrish said she tried to keep her away from guys and focused on her budding music career.
Daisy Parrish told BOSSIP that she was aware of Kehlani’s relationship with NBA baller Kyrie Irving, but repeatedly asked her to step back from relationships because she is barely out of her teens and needed to knuckle down on singing.
“We always say ‘You’re too young,’” Parrish told us. “Concentrate on your singing career. You’re too young to get involved. You don’t want anyone to control you.”
Apparently the 20-year-old didn’t listen, and tried to take her own life Monday after her ex-boyfriend PartyNextDoor revealed they were dealing with each other following her relationship with Irving.
The worried grandmother said Kehlani’s manager called her and Kehlani’s grandfather Guy to break the news, and Guy immediately drove from their home in Northern California to LA to be with her.
“Right now I’m here, and my husband is in LA,” Parrish said. “The whole night, no sleep. We are so shocked. And she is so young.”
Parrish said Nick Cannon – who is like a father figure to Kehlani – has been supporting her granddaughter as she recovers from her suicide attempt at an LA hospital.
The grandma said Kehlani doesn’t have a history of self-harm or depression, and thinks the incident was a one off.
“She is a tough lady,” Parrish said.
