Amirah Vann is the #breakfree beauty dominating WGN’s “Underground” on Wednesdays.
Week after week the proud Afro-Latina from Far Rockaway Queens brings Ms. Ernestine, the mother of escaped house slave Rosa Lee, to life.
A true scene stealer, Ernestine carries her wisdom alongside her signature furrowed brow that’s full of the harsh and at times deadly secrets she’s harboring.

Amirah, 29, is well aware that while she’s working diligently to ensure the accuracy of her character there are still people who are against watching a slave drama centered on “The Underground Railroad.”
“This is our story and we want to turn our backs on it because we haven’t been taught about it accurately,” Vann told ESSENCE. “This is a testament to our love and resilience. This is our Exodus. Let’s talk about Harriet Tubman and Harriet Jacobs.”
Have you been watching WGN’s Underground????
Amirah Vann’s definitely one to watch.
