Lupita Nyong’o Just Learned About Groundhog Day

This Friday marks Groundhog Day, a pretty arbitrary “holiday” where if the designated groundhog sees his shadow, we will get 6 more weeks of winter-like weather–and unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened on this year’s celebration.

Lupita Nyong’o visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! on the press run for her upcoming role in Black Panther, and after being asked about her excitement level for Groundhog Day, she looked a little confused. Kimmel explained the ritual to her, which is when she tells him and the crowd that though she’s seen the Bill Murray movie by the same name…she had no idea it was based off an actual holiday. Like a lot of us who have known about it our whole lives, Lupita doesn’t really understand the tradition.
