Black Panther Brings In $235 Million In Box Office Debut
Stop low-ballin‘ us, ya dig?!?!
The very first projections for Ryan Coogler & co.’s “Black Panther” came in around $100 million back in January according to Variety. That person isn’t good at their job because they clearly didn’t account for the power of the Black dollar.
After a never-ending stream of insulting projection updates the final North American tally is finally in and B!TC#! Word is that the Wakandan superhero clocked $235 million in ticket sales in their four-day tally.
That puts “Black Panther” at #1 in several categories, but we’ll run down the whole list of commercial accolades:
– $25.2 million on Thursday night marks the highest preview night ever for February opening, second largest among all Marvel films.
-$60.1 million Sunday total marks the second biggest in movie industry history behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”
-Highest 3-day February debut EVER and fifth highest opening in movie history
-Highest President’s Day opening ever, demolishing 2015’s “Deadpool” mark of $152 million
-Highest grossing IMAX debut of all time ($35 million)
Prior to it’s release, there was a lot of talk about whether or not “Black Panther” could smash the glass ceiling stereotype about “Black” movies, that they don’t perform well in foreign markets. Well, according to the LATimes, Disney reported $169 million overseas!
Congratulations to the cast and crew! #BlackPantherSoLit
More reactions from Michelle Obama and more on the other side.
Congrats to the entire #blackpanther team! Because of you, young people will finally see superheroes that look like them on the big screen. I loved this movie and I know it will inspire people of all backgrounds to dig deep and find the courage to be heroes of their own stories.

The turn of phrase you’ll be looking for in your articles about #BlackPanther’s foreign box office:
“Disproved a pernicious Hollywood myth about black film and foreign box office that was unsubstantiated by data and based in racism.”
