Drake’s Manager Is Being Sent To The Slammer

Drake’s former is in some deep trouble, but it doesn’t have anything to do with music.

According to reports from the New York Daily News, Aspire Music Group co-founder Derrick Lawrence was sentenced to 8 months in prison on Monday. The reason? He apparently neglected to file his personal tax returns 3 years in a row from 2009 to 2011. The music executive pleaded guilty to three counts of tax evasion in April 2017, but he made sure he told the court that his crime was anything but intentional.

Lawrence said about the charges, “It was never a disrespect to the government. It was a lack of knowledge. It’s my fault for not following up with my accountants who I hired.”

Lawrence is reported to have made $2.2 million within that three-year time period, which means that he ended up owing somewhere around $750,000 in back taxes. According to the Daily News, the music mogul still owes the IRS about $600,000 of that. On the flip side, his attorney Stacey Richman said she is confident Lawrence will be able to pay off his debt in no time.

It was reported that Derrick began managing Drake back in 2008, but was sued several years later by Jas Prince for breach of a verbal agreement, after he was allegedly promised a finder’s fee for Drake, along with a management position.
