When Ringo, a yellow Lab, was retired after working for a Mississippi police department for 9 years, his handler took him to a shelter instead of keeping him. Now the officer has been demoted. https://t.co/Ofv9JUzA7W

Black Folks Aren’t Feeling The Reactions To Story About Cop K-9 Ringo
Twitter users of color are currently repulsed by the New York Times story seen above. Mississippi police officer Carl Ellis in was charged with taking care of his narcotic-sniffing K-9 partner, Ringo, upon the dog’s retirement from the Jackson Police Department. Instead, he dropped the dog at a local shelter and was caught when Ringo’s former trainer Randy Hare was contacted about adoption. As a result of this shabby behavior of a former police officer, Ellis was “demoted”.
But this story isn’t about Ringo or the shady officer who dumped his bestest boy at the shelter, this is about people’s reactions to this story in contrast to how they react when police kill unarmed Black people.
How could you treat your partner that way after 9 years?! Ringo is better off with someone else. What is wrong with people?

We don’t typically see this kind of passionate decry of police conduct from WASPy folks when they decide to empty a clip on kid in a hoodie.
…officers literally kill people and I don’t see this much backlash outside of the marginalized communities it happens to. I love dogs and want them to be cared for but I’m astounded by these responses in comparison to when officers literally kill unarmed people🙃

We just tired. That’s all.
So this is what it takes to have an officer demoted? Not wanting to take care of a dog, not planting weed in a kids car or KILLING PEOPLE

Flip the page to see some of the cringe-y and animal-loving outrage from whites and the righteously indignant responses from people of color.
Terrible. Glad he was rescued.

I thought cops never spoke out against other cops because of the code of brotherhood or whatever. No? pic.twitter.com/qv06kpoL4D

So basically everytime a cop kills an unarmed person of color, we can look up if they were mean to a dog at one point and the yt people will be on our side for once. Lol

if only cops got repercussions for shooting black folks
— INTUITION (@ItsIntuition) December 18, 2018
I get it if he doesn't have time & isn't home enough or doesnt want the responsibility …BUT anyone in this situation who can't love or respect a dog enough to find him/her a proper loving home….Needs a soul. And why doesn't the department have resources?

LOL these comments are WILD and TELLING. I DONT TRUST NONE O’ YALL. 😂

When we say white people love dogs more than black people, this tweet and the replies are proof, sigh

You reap what you sow. I hope that officer is on desk duty for life.

If it was a black lab nothing would’ve happened to him.

So what you’re saying is: dog’s live matters more than minority people’s lives. Kill a minority=paid leave. But a dog in a shelter=demotion, less pay(?)

If I had the time, I'd go through the tweet history of everyone wishing this cop has been fired for giving away a dog… I'd like to see how mad the SAME PEOPLE have reacted when cops murdered unarmed black folks.

That officer should be ashamed of himself placing police dog in a shelter instead of keeping him or looking for him a new home he deserve to be demoted of a horrible thing he done on the good police dog.

Ringo’s handler must have a heart of stone for discarding his loyal K9 partner. I totally support the decision to demote. Choices and consequences.
