Many People Aren’t Too Happy With Darden’s Involvement
In an interesting turn of events, the alleged killer of Nipsey Hussle decided to recruit a controversial lawyer for his defense.
According to New York Daily News, 29-year-old Eric Holder brought on former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Chris Darden as his private lawyer. Holder pleaded not guilty to his murder charge on Thursday during a tense afternoon arraignment.
According to a prosecution source, Darden, 62, was “privately retained” by Holder at the last minute and he entered the plea on his client’s behalf. He announced Holder denies “all allegations” in the case.
Along with his murder charge, Holder also faces two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm. His bail was initially set at $7 million, but the judge lowered it to $5 million and ordered him back to court on May 10.
The fact that Darden has been brought on to defend Holder is not sitting well with people. Darden was quite the controversial figure in the 1994 O.J. Simpson trial when Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. As the co-prosecutor to the case, many people thought Darden was turning his back on Black people by going after O.J. He eventually lost the case too when O.J. was acquitted of his two murder counts.
Meanwhile, LAPD Chief Michel Moore said Nipsey’s murder could have come from a “personal matter” and “dispute” between Nipsey and Holder. He said in a Tuesday press conference that they engaged in multiple conversations before Holder returned to Nipsey’s Marathon Clothing store to open fire, killing Nipsey. Although both have gang history, Moore said their dispute didn’t involve a gang rivalry.
Darden will have a lot of explaining to do when defending Holder. The public is already giving him ALL the side eyes. Celebs like Meek Mill were quick to express their sentiments…
