Today marks the 9th anniversary of the death of recording artist Aaliyah Dana Haughton. The singer died at 22 in a plane crash on August 25, 2001 after filming the video for her single “Rock The Boat” in the Bahamas.
We’ll always love and miss Aaliyah, here are just a few reasons why…
9. Her Regal Beauty
They cast her as ‘Queen Of The Damned’ for good reason. Aaliyah always held her head high and conveyed a quiet confidence that we’ll never forget.
8. Her Grace … Even When Executing Killer Dance Moves
Aaliyah was one smooth mover… Even on her slow songs she managed to work in some memorable choreography!
7. Her Abs, Her Legs, That Amazing Body
The definition of a banger, Aaliyah stayed in great shape and still remains famous for her belly baring steez!
6. She Gave The “Girl Next Door” A Brown Face
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Detroit, Aaliyah so embodied the All-American girl that Tommy Hilfiger asked her to model for his ’90’s ad campaigns… Red, white and blue never looked so good!
5. Her Fearlessness
Have you ever noticed the way she handled this snake in the “We Need A Resolution” video? Need we say more?
4. Her Fun-Loving Spirit
Everything about this song, from the “baby cooing” sample Timbaland used, to the bounce in Aaliyah’s step in her video seemed to reflect her fun loving and youthful nature… Tell the truth, you tried to do this dance too!
3. Her Long Flowing Locks
Aaliyah sometimes used her signature long locks to hide behind, but that flowing mane could never escape our attention!
2. Her Beautiful Smile (And Laugh)
Who could forget that dimple? Aaliyah’s smile (and laugh) were just part of her undeniable beauty and charm…
1. Her Kind And Generous Ways
Just ask loyal friends like Missy Elliott, Kidada Jones, Timbaland and Ginuwine. Her love was 1 in a million!
