Black actors may have been snubbed at the Oscars but they won’t be here. Check out Bossip’s list of who’s really award-worthy — in the traditional categories …and some of our own — this season.
Best Romantic Comedy
Just Wright, Queen Latifah and Common
Big ups to the super talented MCs turned actors for taking on a title that combats the stereotypes around feminine beauty and simpleton athletes.
Writing (adapted screenplay)
For Colored Girls, Screenplay by Tyler Perry
The Perry team did a phenomenal job of transforming this iconic play into a deeply moving film, which speaks to multiple generations of all women about the consequence of choices.
Best Picture
The Karate Kid, Will Smith, Producer
This blockbuster (it earned $360 million) family-friendly flick resuscitated the slumbering 80’s hit franchise. Plus it tackled pertinent life issues, such as bias, finances and love….oh, yeah, and how to kick butt!
Best Body of Work
Regina King, Our Family Wedding
Ms. King is the queen of multitasking. Not only was she a bright spot in this family comedy, she’s also the star of two TV series, The Boondocks and Southland.
Best Moral Lesson
Lottery Ticket, Bow Wow, Lead Actor
Hitting the number, the mall, and your dream girl may be the goal of many young men. Luckily, this comedy reminded viewers that there are better things to do with your time, funds… and penis.
Best Dressed Female Cast
Why Did I Get Married Too, Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith and Sharon Leal
Though wardrobe credits typically go to costume designers (in this case it’s Keith G. Lewis), we must acknowledge these gals for working what their mama gave them so well. Each woman represented her body type with fierceness.
