Elsewhere In The World: Almost 500 Taliban Prisoners Breakout Of Afghan Jail
This can’t be good.
The Governor of Kandahar, Tooryali Wisa, confirmed he’d been notified at four o’clock on Monday morning that “around 487 Taliban prisoners had escaped from the prison”.
A Taliban spokesman claimed that insurgents outside Sarposa had dug the 1,050-foot (320-meter) tunnel over a five month period.
The most dangerous Taliban commanders would not have been kept at the prison, they are usually transferred to a facility outside of Bagram Air Base in eastern Afghanistan or held in a special high-security wing of the main prison in Kabul.
Waheed Omer, spokesman for the Afghan president, said: “This (prison escape) is very bad news for the government and people of Afghanistan, it shows a big vulnerability of the government.”
Ya think? 1000 inmates broke out of that same prison in 08. SMH
