Every Friday the Bossip Boombox will be bringing you a themed boombox and to kick it off we decided to highlight the frenzy that is Watch The Throne. No we’re not shoving more Yeezy and Hov down your musical mouth, we’re showcasing a couple of new artists signed to The Throne’s recording labels. Since you’re busy watching the throne, shouldn’t you become familiar with who else is sitting in the royal court? Today we chose to spotlight a couple newcomers signed to Jay Z’s label, RocNation. Throw ya diamonds in the sky people!
Bridget Kelly
Bridget Kelly is ready for the spotlight. After performing “Empire State of Mind” with her mentor Jay-Z on tour, the Roc Nation songstress releases her new song “Thinking About Forever” penned by Frank Ocean. You may already be familiar with the tender tune as the Odd Future songwriter liberated his version just yesterday.
Thinking About You
Hugo
There’s an aura of late night heat and mystery in the music of Hugo. For him, Old Tyme Religion isn’t just another album title – it’s an apt summation of a certain conviction that continuously embeds itself in his story, and in his songs. His real life experiences have taken him from the Mekong River jungle to the booth of a favorite Thai restaurant in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood he has made home. His spiritual and musical sojourns have led to Old Tyme Religion, a lyrically provocative, tunefully hook-filled unconventional pop debut.

London born rapper K. Koke has been causing a stir in the underground scene with his flurry of mixtapes, freestyles and videos accumulating in excess of 10 million views on Youtube. Hailing from London’s notoriously tough Stonebridge Estate, Koke’s “Fire In The Booth” freestyle for Charlie Sloth’s BBC 1Xtra show has alone had over 1.2 million views, while his debut solo mixtape, ‘Pure Koke: Volume 1’ sold over 10,000 copies as a completely independent release and collected the award for Best Mixtape at the Official Mixtape Awards (where Koke also won Best Male this year).
It’s Peak
Rita Ora
Greatness comes from a solid sense of self. As an artist, it takes knowing who you are and exactly what you want to say. Roc Nation’s newest signee, 19 year-old Rita Ora, has no qualms with telling the world who she is. Unlike over-the-top pop stars who rely on gimmicks to express themselves, Rita’s individuality is effortless. And thanks to her tremendous vocal ability and fresh take on love and life, the British based singer is entirely unique.
Alexis Jordan
With all of the stars that fill our sky, there are very few that shine as bright as Star Roc / Roc Nation’s newest signee, Alexis Jordan. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Alexis embodies the new spirit of America with her rich cultural background that includes her father’s Puerto Rican heritage and her mother’s African American, Native American and European ancestry. Alexis Jordan will not only impress each and every person who listens to her album, but she also hopes to inspire them as well.
