Every Friday the Bossip Boombox will be bringing you a themed boombox and to kick it off we decided to highlight the frenzy that is Watch The Throne. No we’re not shoving more Yeezy and Hov down your musical mouth, we’re showcasing a couple of new artists signed to The Throne’s recording labels. Since you’re busy watching the throne, shouldn’t you become familiar with who else is sitting in the royal court? Today we chose to spotlight a couple newcomers signed to Kanye’s label, GOOD Music. These are artists who you may not be too familiar with, but live by the motto “Getting Out Our Dreams”… are you?
Teyana Taylor
Harlem-based rapper, singer, and dancer Teyana Taylor first gained recognition across the States on an early-2007 episode of MTV’s My Super Sweet 16. By the time it aired, she had already signed to Star Trak/Interscope, helped popularize the Chicken Noodle Soup dance, and choreographed the video for Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm.” Her debut album, featuring productions from Hit Boy, Mad Scientist, and Pharrell, was released in 2008. The brash pre-release single “Google Me,” produced by Jazze Pha, caught quite a bit of attention on the Internet.

Southside Chicago poet turned rapper Malik Yusef (aka the Wordsmyth) started honing his craft in the mid-’90s with appearances at open-mike nights. While he was performing a spoken word set, director Ted Witcher was in the audience looking for inspiration for his next movie about urban poetry. Impressed by Yusef’s loose but powerful free-form style, he hired him as a coach for Lorenz Tate in 1997’s Love Jones. Inspired by the smooth lines of a jazz solo.” Moving back to rap, in 2003, Yusef released his debut solo album, The Great Chicago Fire — A Cold Day in Hell, which featured a long list of production credits and guest appearances that included Kanye West, Xtreme, Chantay Savage, Common, among others.

D’Banj
D’banj” (KOKO MASTER) D’Banj is a Nigerian singer and song writer as well as harmonica guru, a charismatic stage performer with boundless energy…. D’Banj grew up listening to Fela’s music, “his mentor” and he has performed at Femi Kuti’s new AFRIKAN SHRINE in Lagos as well as the Shrine Synchro System’s regular London Night at Cargo. June 2011, D’banj along with his producer Don Jazzy of the Nigerian record label, MoHits Records, were both signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music record label as artiste and producer respectively.

Tony Williams, though today, known primarily as a background performer, has dubbed himself, the World Famous. Having travelled the world over, more than, five times as the background vocalist for the iconic Grammy Winning rapper, Kanye and the actual artist who wrote, produced and performed the vocals on a majority of the hits that he performed from Minneapolis to Melbourne, he has earned the name. Tony has worked with some of the most influential and prolific rappers of this Millennium, Jay-Z, Nas and, of course, Kanye.
