Jerry Sandusky Asks Judge For Leniency On Bail Conditions

Attorneys representing accused child molester Jerry Sandusky will ask a judge Friday for more leniency on the former Penn State assistant football coach’s bail conditions. The hearing at the Centre County court in Bellefonte, Pa., comes three days after the state’s attorney general’s office filed a motion demanding that tighter restrictions be placed on the 68 year old, who is under house arrest while awaiting trial. The action follows complaints from his neighbors, who claim Sandusky was seen watching children at a nearby schoolyard from his back porch — allegations described by the former coach’s attorney, Joe Amendola, as “totally unfounded.”

Sandusky, who denies charges of sexually assaulting 10 boys over a 15-year period, will request Judge John M. Cleland loosens the bail restrictions to allow him contact with his 11 grandchildren while in the presence of another adult, to leave his home and to receive visitors at the property. The attorney general’s office wants Sandusky to be confined indoors, in light of the neighbors’ allegations. The sides also will discuss the recruitment of the trial jury, with state prosecutors demanding people from outside the State College area to ensure a fair verdict. Amendola, meanwhile, will address the matter of evidence-sharing that he raised in court documents filed Tuesday.
