Robert Griffin III Weds Girlfriend

Robert Griffin III has excelled at virtually everything in recent years, from academic work to college football, from public speaking to the NFL, from handling the media to rehabbing from injury.

Via Washington Post reports:

Well, add “getting married” to the list. Because Griffin’s much-anticipated marriage to longtime girlfriend Rebecca Liddicoat in Denver on Saturday night left at least some of his guests in awe.

“The best of America, that’s how I felt,” said boxing promoter Rock Newman, a friend of the Griffin family. “I just saw people, all ages, all ethnicities, all colors — white, black, Hispanic, Asian — really just enjoying each other. And I marveled at it. I just was filled with a sense of pride and optimism – optimism, man – because we live in fractured world. And that sense of any kind of division was not there.”

Indeed, Griffin rose at one point and encouraged each of the several hundred guests to get up and meet someone they didn’t already know, telling the attendees that everyone in the room was now family.

Both the ceremony — presided over by a bishop from the Christian House of Prayer in Griffin’s home town of Copperas Cove, Tex. — and the reception were held in the Denver Four Seasons. Guests remained there for six or seven hours, and the fathers of both Griffin and Liddicoat spoke passionately of their love for their new relatives. There were 10 members in the wedding party, including Griffin’s father — who was his best man — and Liddicoat’s sister, her maid of honor.

And there were dozens of guests from Redskins Park, from owner Daniel Snyder and his wife, Tanya, to General Manager Bruce Allen to Coach Mike Shanahan to senior vice president Tony Wyllie to a host of coaches and staffers, including offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, QB coach Matt LaFleur, receivers coach Mike McDaniel, offensive assistant Richmond Flowers, head athletic trainer Larry Hess and director of football operations Paul Kelly.

And the players? They were legion, including quarterbacks (Kirk Cousins, Rex Grossman), wide receivers (Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, Joshua Morgan), running backs (Alfred Morris, Eric Kettani), offensive linemen (Chris Chester, Tyler Polumbus, Kory Lichtensteiger), and defenders (DeAngelo Hall, London Fletcher, Stephen Bowen, Richard Crawford and others).

Baylor was also well-represented, from former teammates to football Coach Art Briles to school president Ken Starr.

The quarterback, meanwhile, seemed as joyous as you’d expect.
