Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who became an instant television star after an angry postgame rant directed at 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree after the NFC championship Sunday, backed away from the moment in an interview with CNN.
Sherman will appear on ‘Unguarded’ with Rachel Nichols on Friday and in the taped interview reiterated he was sorry for singling out a rival player calling it “immature.”
“I probably shouldn’t have done that. I regret doing that,” he said.
Interestingly, the two-time All-Pro cornerback offered up an explaination for losing control of his emotions: Football is an emotional sport.
“If you catch me in the moment on the field when I am still in that zone, when I’m still as competitive as I can be and I’m trying to be in the place where I have to be to do everything I can to be successful … and help my team win, then it’s not going to come out as articulate, as smart, as charismatic – because on the field I’m not all those things,” he said.
The full sitdown airs Friday at 10:30 p.m. on CNN. A clip of the interview is below.
Should be interesting. Hopefully, they ask him about the racist hate he got in response to his embarrassing shenanigans.
