We broke it here first: Nas joined members of ColorOfChange.org & MoveOn.org to deliver over 600,000 petitions to put and end to their racist propaganda. Here he’s seen delivering a speech to the press. Jay-Z has too much to lose. He’s taking a stance in other ways…by taking these old farts money and turning it into businesses. He’s leading by example with out having to make a speech by showing ni@#gs how to have black owned business, giving back to the community, and marrying his woman instead of knocking her up and making her a “baby mama”.
He’s beening an example of how to come from the streets and keeping street with his people without “selling out” to the white man.
I think this is a good time for blacks right now. We can show white America that we are more than singing, rapping, playing sports and shucking an jiving…

No disrespect, but Jay shucking and jiving with whitey too, cus if you think hee’s not you better think again. As far as the community goes, investigate the Brooklyn Yard’s project, Jay-Z’s heavily involved in driving plenty of black folks from their homes by “eminent domain,” So the Jets can have their stadium and about 15 or so high-rise luxury condos could surround the stadium.
Jay’s argument is that it’ll bring jobs to the community, but the only job this structure will bring is largely retail, which as we all know has low-income implications.
I live in Brooklyn, not very many of us can afford these new luxury condos popping up, but Jay and his ilk can. I have no respect for drug dealers, he might be legit now, but where did his “seed” money come from?

I’m so sorry you have never acutally encountered a intellectual person. That is sad. If Nas is your idea of an educated person you obviously don’t have a lot of life experience. Nas is not educated and he often sounds ignorant when he speaks. Just because you think his raps are thought provoking doesn’t make him a scholar.

This is not the way to do it. If you want to get Fox News attention, you have to contact the advertisers who advertise on that channel, it’s economics. This is not going to stop people from viewing Fox, which of course, increases their Neilsen ratings and the amount they can charge their advertisers. But in the end the best thing to do is to ignore Fox News because you are only drawing more attention to them and encouraging their viewership to rally around them. We have freedom of speech in America, so if you don’t like something, change the channel, that’s what my family does, so you do it too. Meanwhile political campaigning in America is a dirty business, it always have been, this could end up hurting Obama more than helping him. And please Lord, don’t let Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson get involved otherwise you can kiss any progress you make with this issue goodbye.

The only way this is going to make a difference is if we have more control about the way we are portrayed in the media. Fox New is not going to change. They are making too much money. So instead of us trying to control them why don;t we use our collective voice and be heard in the way that we want to be heard. I truly see nothing standing in the way but us. All we have to is demand more from the power players in the black media, because they are just as bad. Not in the racist sense but in the sense of the crap that is highlighted and fed to the black m*****es. We need to expect more from ourselves.
This reminds me so much of when the NAACP and all of them boycotted the major networks for not having enough black shows, producers and writers, while at the same time we had BET. Why didn’t we press BET to to up their game and stop promoting bull*****! This was around 98 or 99. It made us seem weak at best. This is the same thing.
When you speak of “baller status,” in hip-hop, you immediately think of the three richest men in rap, Jay-Z, P. Diddy & 50 Cent.
This hip-hop star has always been very envious of them, especially Jay and Diddy. He was desperate to belong in their category by any means necessary.
He overextended himself financially by purchasing a big crib and he fronted businesses which seemed lucrative but were going belly-up behind closed doors.
He also leased several exotic cars and acquired an Asian jump-off with expensive taste until his cash became funny.
For video shoots, he wanted expensive whips on display like he was ballin out of control but he couldn’t even afford to lease luxury cars for a day, instead, he contacted local drug ballers and arranged to feature their fancy, customized whips in the video.
While on tour, our hip hop star would discreetly disappear and never inform his staff where he was staying because he was too ashamed to let them know, he was staying at local Holiday Inn’s or Motel 6’s due to his lack of cash flow.
Jay, Diddy and 50 have been known to travel in private jets but our hip-hop star has been spotted on Greyhound incognito.
He’s still fronting, but not as much because his money is short. For appearances, he now has access to nice cars but away from the cameras, he’s been seen driving a Camry.

@ Bird, I am sorry, i usually agree with you but you are wrong on Nas. I am not sure if you have listened FULLY to his work. He speaks the truth about us being Kings and Queens from Africa and needing to learn our culture. He is a bigger supporter of the Keep the Music programs and really has put people on to opening their third eye. Nas has his silly songs too but Nas has always been known for his truthful, though provoking rhymes like Common and Talib Kweli, Mos Def, etc.

Alot of people said that it was for promotion but his album was already number one, and I’m sure that those CNN reporters arent rushing out to buy his album now. Nas’CD represents this very idea for standing up to the powers that be. My great grandmother will be 100yrs old on Aug. 1st, and she never received a college degree. Yet she can tell me everything there is to know about the great depression, civil rights. She even knows our family origination in Madagascar, Africa….She can read, write, and she speaks very well. With her knowledge she can wrap circles around people with degrees. 1. The governments acknowledged sale of drugs in the black community and the results.
2. The proven bias against blacks in the “justice” system by multiple sources.
3. The “War on Poverty” proposed by John F Kennedy and administred by Lyndon B Johnson that economically undermined marriage… Although overall beneficial to America.
I am more interested in how what they are going to show for the black man. I think what they failed to show about single parent black homes was the accomplishments and achievements that comes out of it as well instead of focusing on the bad. I think Nas has done a courageous thing and tied it to his music. Not vice a versa. He has always been a thought provoking rapper. Many people may know him for his fast songs but if you listen to it carefully you will hear what he is really trying to say. Sometimes it takes me three or four times to really get the message.
That said, his album is great! Well produced and you can listen from the beginning to the end without forwarding a song. He is not looking to make money, he said so in one of his songs. He knows that the truth keeps sales down.
As a man/woman sometimes you have to take a stand. Make a decision to go gold with what is on your heart and in your soul. Or go platinum with the popular vote.
Don’t knock him for standing just learn to be a part of the change in your part of the world. If you think everything is fine you are very delusional.

Cutie Pie I watched & taped the program you are referring to and I thought it was a VERY informative program. I really was interested in it and had my son watch. Surprisingly he wanted to watch it (making me even more proud of him). We watched the stories of Black women in America and the challenges they face just because they are Black. I hope people of all races took time to watch it.
It reminded me of a time I had a little dispute with a white male coworker who questioned why Black people should get any special preference for schools, jobs, aid just based on their race. The CNN special was one that a person like him should watch. I mean he wasn’t mean spirited or anything. He really just wanted to know and I believe there are maany whites just like him who actually just don’t realize what our struggles and why some of us struggle like that and they come off as insensitive for it.

1. How many committed homosexual acts, percentage wise?
2. After these acts, how many women on average did they sleep with?
3. What percentage of the women were aware of the jail history of their male sex partners?

I’m 5′ 11″ and 165 lbs. I don’t know many people who would look at me and think I played professional football. But, would you believe, a man thought it was more plausible for me to be a professional football player than a college graduate with a successful career.
I haven’t come in contact with a lot of blatant racism in my life. Yes, I’ve been called the N-word. To be honest, it never really upset me because as soon as that word comes out of someone’s mouth, I’m pretty sure that I’ve won the argument. That person has just confirmed how ignorant they are.
I don’t necessarily consider most people racist. I have, however, seen a lot of racial bias. What I mean by that is people don’t hate me because of the color of my skin, but they simply don’t see me as an equal. Some may say that by not seeing me as an equal, that’s the very definition of racism. Rather, I believe people have so many misconceptions and preconceived notions about black people. They make *****umptions based on the color of my skin.
One of the clearest examples of what I’m talking about is a simple incident at a car wash. I was a news anchor for three years at a station in the Bay Area in California. And when I lived there, I drove a big, white SUV. It had 22″ chrome wheels, dark-tinted windows, and a few personalized touches. It was hot! I would always wash my truck myself at one of those car washes with the pressurized hoses where you spray your vehicle down yourself.
Of course, when I go wash my car, I don’t necessarily look like a news anchor. I look like a guy who’s washing his car. I wear sweats or shorts or jeans with holes, I wear tank tops or t-shirts, I might have on a bandanna or be wearing a baseball cap backwards.
One day a man came over to me as I was washing my truck and said, “Man, I just gotta know. What do you guys do to have nice cars like that?”
He was a nice enough guy and wasn’t really nasty when he asked the question. He truly seemed puzzled about how a young, black man could be driving such a nice car. He went on to ask me if I played for the San Francisco 49ers. Again, I’m 5′11″ and 165 lbs. No, I don’t play for the 49ers.
The guy’s first thought at seeing a young, black man in a nice car was not that I could have gotten it through education and hard work. That is what I mean by bias.
It didn’t cross his mind that maybe this young, black man went to college on an academic, not athletic, scholarship.
If he couldn’t imagine that then he couldn’t imagine that maybe this young, black man graduated from college in four years with a degree.
If he couldn’t imagine that, then he certainly couldn’t imagine that maybe I used my college degree to start a successful career.
And, if he couldn’t imagine that, he certainly couldn’t imagine that maybe, just maybe this young, black man was making more money than him.

I agree, the primary effort should be to combat negative actions. However, part of that combat includes proper education that is unbiased and fair. I’m sure you would agree to that. The term “Down Low” can be misleading.
I agree, people don’t like to look “in house” but that doesn’t mean it isn’t being done.
America’s drug trade isn’t a “theory.” That would imply there would be no agreed upon evidence.

Some statisticians will tell you that one “signature” is representative of a much larger population. Similar to how the U.S. Census calculates the population of the nation, without actually manually counting every person.

I completely agree. I think the deeper question is discussing “sexuality” in the black community as whole. Not just males in the prison system, but the entire spectrum.
Why would a male rather deny who he is and suffer from AIDS silently than speak the truth. Think of Thurgood Marshall and the “Brown vs. Board of Education” with the little children choosing the white doll over the black doll. It is very similar.
The more we “condemn” these men, the further in the closet they will go. They aren’t “Down Low,” as opposed to suffering. A lot in jail were raped as well, and come out not knowing their status. Yet they are portrayed as “sneaky and underhanded.”

The Fox News network is more consevative then the other networks but they constantly supply people with opposing views to debate issues. The other news networks had slip-ups on camera as well such as calling Obama Osama and such. It’s a ridiculous notion that the entire network is putting out false news and racist toward blacks.
The Artfom of Hip Hop has is not like the movie industry as you know, each Artist prides his/herself on keeping it real and being a real person. Reporting what they see around them. Bloods/Cribs being talked about and such. We all know it. NAS won’t address it though. Lets stop FOX NEWS. LOL

I think we are in agreement in principle and differ in execution. Some could ask “why should all the responsibility be at the feet of the people at the end of the distribution chain?” Even if all the people are educated and aware of the problem the distributors know that when people have to choose between themselves and their community as a whole, a large amount will choose themselves. It’s the “self preservation rule.” If the distributors are ignored the problem will continue forever because too many people, no matter how educated on a subject will choose “self” over “community.”

Than their truly is a perception problem which calls for dialouge. If you state that “Fox News network is more consevative then the other networks but they constantly supply people with opposing views to debate issues” than why advertise yourself as “fair and balanced.” Also, most channels begin commentary shows with a vocal or visual statement “..the comments in this show do not reflect the views of this network…,” why not Fox?

SOME artist do base their songs on what they see around them and others don’t. Just like SOME movies are based on life experience and some aren’t. I’m sure we agree to that.
As for Nas, there is nothing for Nas to address. The strategy of “attack the messenger” is “a smoke and mirror” attempt to change the subject.

I think we are in agreement in principle and differ in execution. Some could ask “why should all the responsibility be at the feet of the people at the end of the distribution chain?” Even if all the people are educated and aware of the problem the distributors know that when people have to choose between themselves and their community as a whole, a large amount will choose themselves. It’s the “self preservation rule.” If the distributors are ignored the problem will continue forever because too many people, no matter how educated on a subject will choose “self” over “community.”

She said that nothing teaches you grace more than being able to walk well in high heels. Now I have serious calves, and can wear sky-high pumps! I am 5′9″ so it is even more fun.
Even when the feet hurt (y’all know about the baby toe!) I can still carry out my stroll until I get somewhere and take the shoes off. Plus it is a great way to get a free foot rub from a fine-*****ed man, yessirree! Plus with my afro, I stand over 6 feet tall!

What Nas has rapped about is irrelevant. There are always more important issues to address. Whether the intent is their or not Fox “News” has a signed petition of over 600,000 signatures, apparently something has gone wrong. There were no other petitions against the other news networks. Ummm… In no particular order:
- A woman who acts like a “lady” = manners, polite, etc… (*That definitely gets my attention)
- A woman that is “feminine” = smells good, takes care of herself, (*not in a high maintenence type way) etc… When I’m with a woman I DON’T want to be reminded of “masculine” things = YUCK = BIG TURN OFF =
- intelligence = I understand that everyone can’t afford to go to college, but I NEED for a woman to AT LEAST, AT A MINIMUM have “common sense”, can’t be having arguments about stupid sh#t she be doing…
- Conversation = A woman that can hold a conversation about various things ranging from important to interesting to nonsense stuff (*just a little bit of this, but can’t make up majority of conversation)
- Interest in me = real simple when you ask questions that shows that you’re interested… I like attention from the woman in my life… I’m not needy, but everybody likes attention, etc…
- Appreciative – It turns me on when I do something for a woman and she “sincerely” appreciates it because sometimes I put a lot of effort into the things that I do for a woman and it going unappreciated is a BIG turn off for me personally… * I call this my weakness because I see myself doing more for women who are appreciative of my efforts…
Ex. Sometimes a dude went to the flower shop and didn’t take the cheap, easy & more convenient route of copping the flowers off the Mexican at the stop light…
- Personality = A nice, pleasant & warm personality… I hate “stank” attitudes, that sh#t ain’t cute to me…

Jay’s argument is that it’ll bring jobs to the community, but the only job this structure will bring is largely retail, which as we all know has low-income implications.

For the people who still think Colbert is serious on his show, “patronizing” Nas, is “cool with O’reilly”, etc- Stephen Colbert in real life is actually very liberal and Democratic. He worked on the Daily Show first, and devised “the Colbert Report” as a spin-off- he based the idea for the show on the “O’Reilly Factor” because he thought that show was the most blatanly ridiculous Christian right b.s. ever, so he calls him “Papa bear” when he is in character to imply that his show is mirroring the O’Reilly factor. However, his character repeatedly states that he is terrified of bears- another subtle hint most people don’t catch- he hates bears, yet calls Bill O’Reilly Papa Bear.
The entire show is a mockery of the O’Reilly Factor!! It’s called a satire!! If you watched an entire half hour of that show and never picked up on the sarcasm in any of it..you might be more ignorant in real life than Stephen Colbert pretends to be on his show. And that is why the Colbert Report is the perfect forum for Nas. They both dislike O’Reilly equally.
