I think the media should let up on these two. They trying to Brittany Spears Rihanna. I am nonjudgmental. My fear is that he will seriously hurt her.. I mean, it is already a dangerous situation considering how he unmercifully hit her. In Dec. 2006, I lost my best friend to domestic violence. All I know is, at first dude was supper chill and quiet. I told her it was something iffy about dude. I am good, but my friend was really a bad chick in a sexy way she always out dressed me her booty was bigger and she was ballin out of control. She was the most non judgmental person I ever knew. That year we took a trip to NY during the spring at the spur of the moment.. We would always travel from Memphis, Florida, and many Southern cities on road trips. We had a fantastic time staying at the Sheraton on C*****, in New Orleans for the Bayou Cl*****ic. Prior to that trip she became kinda recluse and I knew something was different. He put up a good disguise because we called him Sugar ‘NAME’ because she said he was so sweet initially. It was a Thursday night and I had spent a couple nights at my Grandmother’s recooping from a head cold. I still hear her high pitched voice saying ” Hey girl, Whats up? What you doin?” She went to College Night at this club. She did not bother to ask me out because she knew I did not feel well. That night I had the scariest dream that I could not recall only the emotion. I remember running, I woke up with only my right sock on. About 545 that morning my homeboy called with his Barry White voice and all I heard was “She’s dead”. I still hear Nas’s “Hip Hop is Dead”, it was so relative to the situation. To think that you are sleeping and loving your enemy is a hard pill to swallow. I mean she was running down the street screaming for her life as he shot her five times and then killed himself. The ironic part is that she was shot in the right foot. Domestic violence is not to be taken lightly.. I love and miss my best friend. I just hope that someone learn something from this.. Don’t be duked in the name of love. Life is precious, let no one steal or control your freedom, life, or joy.. Be victorious…

Here is my take on it. I don’t fear for her. I fear for him. Domestic Violence goes both ways people and you know what, if he stays, I feel this will turn in to a “Phil Hartman” situation.

There is violence against our young ladies in relationships who get back together over and over again after they get whupped on by their mates. There is no reason for any man to fight his woman. Whatever the case may be if NEITHER one of them do not get HELP!!! this ***** is gonnan happen again, and again and again. If re-re is so clingy to her man then she is insecure, low self esteem and other negative issues. I never thought James Brown caused his wife’s death, but I know there were reports of physical violence in their relationship.

Thanks, Syd. I do have my share of temper tantrums but I’m not as spastic or as psychotic as my handle may lead one to believe. I prompted someone to take on the name ‘NOYOUSHADDAPB**CH.’ I thought that was kind of funny. Maybe it was someone I had insulted and they were using a pseudonym to get back at me. I know I’m not innocent and I don’t purport to be.

O, the ‘Antwone Fisher’ story is very similar to my own life. And what’s very coincidental is that I too was in the Navy and had behavioral issues. I don’t do well with people telling me what to do at every waking moment of the day. Anyway, that movie made a big impression on me when I first saw it. And I wasn’t prepared for it. And yes, I plan on suing. (I’m just kidding.)

I didn’t like the Navy. I hated it with a p*****ion. I thought Great Lakes, Illinois in April was the most godawful, bone-chilling cold, miserable experience I have ever encountered. I was sick all of the time because you’ve got young guys coming from all parts of the country. Some of them never had an innoculation in their lives and they spread these intense flu-like symptoms which will bring you to your knees if you’re not familiar with them. I thought I had walking pneumonia eight weeks into bootcamp.

And I had a petty officer who was one of the most disgusting, smarmy little weasels I’ve ever encountered. He had it in for me. I don’t know if he was familiar with Black men like me who joined the military and was actually intelligent. I’m speculating and I shouldn’t even go there – but I don’t have much to go on. I couldn’t get a read on the guy. He was just a miserable little *****. And he was even more bitter that he had to overlook an 84 member division of mostly 18 year olds.

John Perkins was an economist. He comes from an affluent family. His parents brought him up to go to an Ivy League college and his future was basically mapped out from he was a boy. He was taught a particular dialect which is indigenous to a certain region in Ecuador. His task was to seek out certain lands in that region for a given corporation and make statistical *****essments as to what the gross profit would be in ‘x’ amount of years if that corporation was to say dig for oil. These projections were purposely exaggerated so that the corporation could garner a hefty loan from the World Bank. It was such a clandestine operation but so perfectly orchestrated. John does his part, gives the statistic projections to the corporations, they hit up the World Bank and get the government of said country involve to make a deal for the company to set up a telecommunications infrastructure, electricity, sewer system, irregation system, etc. They charge the country such a high interest rate on the loan, they can never pay it back. America steps in and say, okay, we need to set up a military base in your country to compensate for your inability to pay off the loan. Then America and it’s corporations have basically got the country in it’s back pocket.

I’ve heard of them on this discussion board. I make a list if someone (someone credible, of course) puts down info on a good read. ‘Confessions of an Economic Hitman’ is an awesome book. And very insightful. Perkins quit his job because he was so conflicted about what America’s corporations are doing to Third World Countries. His life was threatened when word got out that he was working on a tell-all. But he said he did it so his daughter would have a better world to live in. Read it. I’m serious. You won’t regret it. Everyone I’ve referred it to have come back to me with their minds blown.

I don’t know much about Sister Souljah (other than Bill’s infamous ‘Sister Souljah moment’), but I found this on Wiki:

Souljah took a very active and special interest in learning everything she could about African history, which she felt was left out of the education curriculum in this country purposely: “I supplemented my education in the white American school system by reading African history, which was intentionally left out of the curriculum of American students.”[3] While at Dwight Morrow High School, a school that had a relatively even distribution of Black, Latino, and Jewish student enrollment and a majority Black administration during the time of her studies, from 1978 to 1981. She was a legislative intern in the House of Representatives.[2] Souljah was also the recipient of several honors during her teenage years. She won the American Legion’s Constitutional Oratory Contest, a scholarship to attend Cornell University’s Advanced Summer Program.[2]

Throughout college she traveled, visiting Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Russia. Her academic accomplishments were reinforced with first-hand experiences as she worked in a medical center in Mtepa Tepa, a village located in Zimbabwe, and *****isted refugee children from Mozambique. I had the best Shakespeare professor in undergrad. I went to an HBCU, and he was one of a handful of white professors I had, and he would act out scenes for us in this over-the-top, animated fashion. It was one of my favorite cl*****es.

I never read The Merchant of Venice, but I loved Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, King Lear, etc.

You know, I can’t recall any incidents like that tied to ‘Do the Right Thing.’ It irritated me that a few of the reviews/articles about the movie I read made it seem like mobs of angry black folks were going to go on a rampage after seeing it.

One of the aspects I appreciated most about the film is that it placed blame on everyone. The scene in which different characters voice racial stereotypes about other groups was ingenious to me.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression but why would a white young lady from Wisconsin want to pursue a career in teaching our literature? It just touched me. She was feeling down sometime long after the semester had ended and I caught ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ on television. You know, the one with Phylicia Rahsaad, Diddy, etc. I remembered how much we had dissected that play in cl***** and this wave hit me – like ‘Wow, I learned so much from that woman.’ I sent her a bouquet of flowers to tell her ‘thanks.’ We’re still friends to this day.

BTW, have you seen the old film version of Romeo and Juliet with Olivia Hussey? It came out in the late 60’s, and it’s the best cinematic version of the work I’ve seen. It was directed by Italian filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli.
