Iyanla believes that parents are the foundation upon which children build their lives, and when the foundation isn’t stable, the structure of the child’s life is weak. This, she says, is exactly what happened to Jay—the biological father of 34 children—whose own parents failed him when he was a boy.
Jay, a 44-year-old man who has fathered 34 children with 17 different women, says his personal struggles began long before he became a dad. When Jay was a boy, his parents, Wes and Stacey, divorced after several years in a dysfunctional relationship. Throughout his childhood, Jay went back and forth between his parents’ homes, primarily living with his father. Then, when Wes had problems with his then-wife, he left town—and left his son behind.
In the first part of Iyanla’s three-part mega-fix, she travels to Atlanta to meet Jay, a 44-year-old video producer who has worked with some of the music industry’s biggest names. Although Jay has excelled professionally, he wrote a letter to Iyanla seeking help with his personal life.
For more than two decades, Jay has fathered child after child with woman after woman. In total, he has 34 biological children with 17 different women. Iyanla says it’s no surprise that Jay has fallen short of his duties as a father. Now, Jay has asked for Iyanla’s support as he attempts to make amends with his children, which is no easy task.
This is a family unlike any Iyanla has ever worked with. Jay, a 44-year-old man, has fathered 34 biological children with 17 women. After sitting down with Jay and four of his adult children, Iyanla says it’s clear that Jay has never been held accountable for his behavior. Now, he must face the consequences.
Over the past two decades, 44-year-old Jay has fathered children with 17 different women. As part of the healing process, Iyanla sits down with some of these mothers. As the doorbell begins to ring, Iyanla greets each woman and hands her dolls that represent how many children she’s had with Jay.
