Nelly could have faced up to 12 years in prison on just the felony drug charge, but the rapper’s plea means Nelly will get probation, and the case won’t go to trial. The “Hot In Herre” rapper did not have to admit guilt on the case, and could have the whole thing expunged if he stays out of trouble for a year, according to court officials.

Only first time offenders are eligible to participate in Tennessee’s pretrial diversion program.

Interestingly, Nelly’s case documents have been sealed, though it wasn’t clear whether it had to do with his pretrial diversion.

We’ve reached out to the Putnam County District Attorney and rapper’s defense lawyer for comment.
