Prosecutors Said Troy Stratos Is Back Up to His Old Tricks In Jail

Nicole Murphy’s childhood friend – who swindled the actress out of $10 million – had many opportunities to achieve success but instead choice to live an unrepentant and incorrigible life, so says the prosecutors who are arguing for a 30-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors told the judge that Troy Stratos is incapable of changing, and described how he’s turned to conning fellow inmates into believing he’ll manage them as male models and “training” them to walk the runway.

Over the summer, Stratos plead guilty to stealing more than $10 million from Murphy, which she received from her 2005 divorce from her ex-Eddie Murphy.

He convinced Nicole to allow him to invest her millions and he told her he was putting it overseas. In reality, he was living a lavish lifestyle, owning luxury automobiles like a Lamborghini & Rolls-Royce, purchasing a home, $50,000 grand piano and various extravagant shopping sprees.

Stratos was arrested for defrauding Murphy along with millions from other high-profile investors and has been behind bars since 2011.

His sentencing is scheduled for December 12th and is facing up to 30 years in prison.

Earlier this week, prosecutors filed docs pleading with the judge to throw the book at Stratos and sentence him to the maximum time in prison.

“Defendant Troy Stratos is exceptionally talented at what he does,” prosecutors said in court papers. “Unfortunately, what he does is steal other people’s money. Stratos has devoted nearly all of his adult life to defrauding individuals. The last legitimate income he earned was approximately $30,000 in 1993. Since then, through guile, the force of his personality, and lying with ease and without hesitation, Stratos has taken over $43,000,000 from his victims, leaving many of them financially ruined and emotionally scarred, while he has lived an incredibly extravagant lifestyle.”

Interesting to note – the prosecutors informed the judge Stratos is still conning people to this day – this time to his fellow inmates while in prison.

A sergeant with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office – who works at the jail where Stratos is housed – gave a declaration claiming Stratos has had to relocate over 32 times for his safety due to other inmates threatening to harm him due to him allegedly scamming them out of credits at the commissary or refusing to pay his gambling debts.

He attempted to contact former inmates after their release and told them to undertake various activities on his behalf, including trying to locate experts on bitcoin.

Stratos even promised inmates to help establish and manage various careers after their release, including careers in male modeling or in the entertainment industry. He has attempted to train or give instructions to inmates on how to walk like a model.

The deputy said he believes Stratos convinced a lawyer to let him use her cell phone along with sneak him in documents in connection with this multi-million dollar potential sale marked “Ellen Dove Project.”

The lawyer put $5,600 on Stratos’ commissary books, which the jail deputy said he has never before seen a lawyer putting money on a client’s books.

Stratos conducted elaborate schemes to fund an obscene life of decadent pleasure. From the more than $20,000,000 he stole by defrauding Murphy and other investors, the only tangible assets they were able to recover were three cars and a potentially worthless piano, prosecutors said.

He spent the majority of the money on gambling trips to Las Vegas by private jet and limousine, over-the-top shopping sprees and other frivolous displays of wealth, according to court papers.

While they admit a 30-year prison sentence is lengthy, they said Stratos was had many opportunities for success in his life, attended prestigious colleges and made numerous connections with important people, which he could have used to live an honest and decent life. Instead, they said he decided to become an unrepentant and incorrigible conman who has caused losses of tens of millions of dollars and ruined lives.

They asked for the judge to throw the book at Stratos and sentence him to 30 years in prison and pay restitution to Murphy in the amount of $11,415,007.
