Shmurda, dressed in a prison-issued khaki jacket and pants, looked crestfallen as he addressed the judge. His hands were cuffed behind his back, and he was flanked by two armed court officers. The troubled rapper was immediately remanded and put his head down as he was led back to the cells.

The conclusion of the case comes as the Department of Corrections moved Shmurda eight hours away from Downstate Prison in Brooklyn to Clinton Correctional Facility near Canada after another inmate tried to stab him during a mealtime a month ago, Allen DeWane, the family’s spokesman, told BOSSIP. The rapper felt someone approaching him from behind, and was able to narrowly miss the attack.

“These are lowlives,” DeWane told BOSSIP. “They think they can score brownie points if they get a star.

Shmurda has to serve the remainder of his time in protective custody because the Bloods gang have targeted him for assault, DeWayne said. Clinton has a special program for inmates in protective custody, he said.

Shmurda’s mother, Leslie Pollard, told BOSSIP that although her son is now an eight-hour drive away, she would still continue to visit him every other week and help get him emotionally and mentally ready for the prison time.

“Everything was very unfortunate,” she said. “Now, we’re building up his strength to do the actual time.”

The mom added that Shmurda will have a new roster of artists coming out, a clothing line and is writing a movie script in lockup about the experience.

Shmurda is due back in court next month for sentencing.
